The Bensenville, Illinois Army National Guard was organized on July 1, 1898. The regiment was named for Major General John A. Bensen and his family. The regiment was raised in the town of Bensenville, Illinois and has served in both World Wars I and II. In 1919, the regiment was redesignated as the 108th Infantry Regiment and served in World War II as a part of the United States Eighth Infantry Division. Today, the 108th Infantry Regiment is based out of Moline, Illinois and is responsible for providing military support to local law enforcement agencies in northern Illinois.

Bensenville is a town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,873 at the 2010 census. Bensenville is the second most populous town in McHenry County after Orland Park. The first residents of what is now Bensenville were Native Americans who lived near the present-day village of West Point on the Ottawa River. European settlers arrived around 1812 when Captain John Wyandotte and his party laid down a forts and trading posts along the river's banks. By 1830, there were several small settlements located near modern day Bensenville, but it was not until 1836 that a permanent settlement was established by Colonel James Krieger and his family. They named their new town after General David Benton, who had helped lead American forces to victory over Mexico at Pueblo de México in 1821. The first store in Bensenville opened its doors on December 12, 1836, just four months after Krieger's arrival. The community grew rapidly due to its location close to transportation routes and its potential as a center for agriculture and trade. In 1840, construction began on what would become one of America's earliest brick yards; today's brickyard remains an integral part of the town's economy dating back to that same year. By 1850, Bensenville had more than 20 buildings including three churches and two schools; it also boasted a full complement of citizens - patrollers (streetlights) and schoolteachers - all working together towards one common goal: providing good government for their constituents! During the early years of this century, many local businesses thrived thanks to contributions from individuals or groups such as Mr. & Mrs. Laddie Rickshaw (early bicycle riders), George Weems (early grocery store owner), Hiram Pratt (founder of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company), Cornelius Vanderbilt Vanderbilters (prominent New York City lawyer), etcetera... It wasn't until 1925 thatcommerce took off again within our community when prohibition became law in America !!! Many businesses closed during prohibition because they could not compete with illegal alcohol sales which continued unchecked despite numerous prosecutions throughout Illinois !!! After prohibition ended in 1933 various small businesses reopened but didnt quite achieve same success as before because taxes suddenly increased making it very difficult for them to keep up with inflation !!! Today many local businesses are still closed but some have come back online thru online channels like Yelp

Their farmstead grew into a large tract of land which they divided among themselves and their children over time. In 1865, Mr. and Mrs. John Eckhart bought some additional land from George Bensen and formed the Eckhart-Benson company which built two cotton ginners on the current site of the City Hall Building (now First National Bank) and started trading goods with distant markets including Canada and Mexico! They also began to build up what would become known as "the Village" - literally 4096 acres of rolling countryside that stretched north to south for nearly four miles! From this beginning it can be said that there has been much development along Main Street – one could drive almost anywhere within minutes’ reach today without seeing any major landmarks other than downtown or some modest homes scattered around! What began as just a few families enjoying agricultural production soon spawned dozens more businesses, organizations, churches and citizens who created what we know today as one of America's most vibrant communities – full of life despite its limited resources! This community spirit continued even when economic conditions changed; during hard times like World War II or during periods such as the Great Recession when jobs dried up or prices went down dramatically – not one person ducked out or chose to leave! Quite simply put: No matter how tough things got our residents banded together like never before!"

After the war, Bensenville experienced rapid growth as a bedroom community for Chicago; however, recent amendments to Illinois State Constitution have limited its status as a city.
