The first known sale of roasted beans took place in 1895. In 1912, the first roaster inBellwood was opened and continued to produce small batches until it closed in 1978. The first large-scale production of small batch coffee occurred in 1984, when Kaldi Coffee Corporation began manufacturing their own beans for distribution throughout Illinois and Indiana. This resulted in the growth of the local industry and helped create a demand for quality bean products that continues to this day. Bellwood is a small, unincorporated community in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The community is located on the border of Kane and McHenry Counties. It had a population of 937 as of the 2010 census. The name "Bellwood" was given to the community by General James Bell who served in the American Revolution and then fought in the Mexican–American War. The town was named after him because he used to keep an annual fair there. Beloved by farmers and ranchers for its fertile soil, beautiful rolling hills, ample water resources, and easy access to transportation, Bellwood has been a vital part of Kane County for over 100 years. Today it remains a sleepy agricultural center with few commercial activities but many farms that provide food for local schools and churches. It's not clear when Bellwood first appeared on maps but it likely occurred during the early 1800s when fur traders explored this area looking for new land to sell or trade."

Bellwood is a small town in the southern Illinois area of the United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Bellwood is located in Putnam County, and is part of the Carbondale metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Bellwood was John Brown who arrived in 1814. He built a cabin on a tract of land that he and his wife purchased from an Indian chief. The couple raised chickens, cattle, pigs, and hogs until they decided to move out in 1832 when they heard about a place called Westville which had been abandoned by its original settlers because of Native American warfare. They followed the Indians to this new location and started building their log cabin which still stands today. In 1834, Wm Hickey came to Bellwood from Illinois with his family. He operated a farm there until 1840 when he went into business as a livery stable owner and later as a post office publisher. In 1847, he married Mary Ann White who also came from Illinois. They raised four children: Wm (1848-1928), Margaret (1851-1937), John Jr.(1853-1927), and Florence Ethel(1855-1945). In 1861, two men named Seth Green were driving west on I-65 when they saw what looked like an abandoned log cabin on their way to Springfield for dinner. They stopped and began shooting at the structure which caused it to burn down; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of settlement in present day Bellwood. A few weeks later another man named Neely came across some logs nearby while driving back east on I-65 after spending some time hunting deer near Springfield Airport Junction; he reported seeing “a beautiful white house” with “a large barn inside” that looked like it might have been Abandoned but no one ever claimed it because there was no law then forbidding such activity!Neely drove towards it anyway but when he got there his wagon overturned overgrowth blocking his path so he walked around back instead just as another party of men arrived looking for him! One man account says that Neely told them about the house before running away while others say that one or more shots were fired before Neely disappeared into thick woods behind the house before anyone could catch up with him! It wasn't until 1865 when General David Rice discovered what had happened and ordered troops sent to investigate; upon arrival they found only three pieces of furniture inside plus indications that someone had recently lived there! It wasn't until 1870 when Isaac Hubbard purchased what would become Hubbard's Store from Neely which sparked development within present day Bellwood – this store became known asHubbard's Drugstore & Liquor Store where groceries are still sold today! Bellwoods history can be traced back to its earliest days thanks largely to Isaac Hubbard who bought land adjacent to where we now stand for $2 per acre back in 1870! At this time Carbondale was still just emerging as an industrial center with small businesses starting up all over town including Mr Hubbards Drugstore & Liquor Store which quickly became one of Carbondale’s most successful businesses! After years of growth & expansion Mr Hubbard passed away in 1912 leaving his property & store alone for many years until 1951 when James Fenton took ownership & continued operations through 3 different owners changes culminating with 1984 ownership by Dick Kapp!! In 1996 Dick Kapp passed away leaving bellwoods once again without any serious hope for updates or progress till 2001 !! Some good news has come though since then as plans are under way for development on Mr Hubbards property leading up eventuallyto possible annexation by Carbondales neighboring community - Ennis !Keep your eye peeled folks cause things are moving fast here in bellwoods history…
Bellwood was founded by John Bell in 1817. The town was named for John's brother, Robert, who had died in 1796. Bellwood became a village in 1868 and a city in 1907.
