Beach Park is a census-designated place in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first post office in Beach Park was established on July 3, 1876. It served as the town's only postal service until 1907. In that year, it was merged with neighboring Arlington Heights to form an enlarged Beach Park. The last post office closed in 1969. The community sprang up around a small beach located on the western edge of town. By the early 1920s, beach access had been developed and much of what is now Beach Park was built along State Road 31 between 1922 and 1928 as part of a master plan for expanding Cook County into northwest Indiana Territory. In 1984, Beach Park became home to Northwestern Illinois University's Harry S Truman Presidential Library and Museum after its purchase from President Franklin D Roosevelt's widow Eleanor Roosevelt. The library remains open to the public today and house more than 2 million items from across his presidency dating back to his days as president of the United States (1941-1945). When Northwestern Illinois moved out of its previous location on State Street in Elmhurst in 1997, it left behind a large amount of infrastructure including two football stadiums – Loyola Stadium (now called Memorial Stadium) and then US Cellular Field – which were used by both men’s basketball teams at NIU during their formative years before moving all sports operations to Chicagoland following NCAA deregulation in 2002; Loyola also hosted indoor track meets until 2006 when Northwestern vacated it due to financial troubles. Beach Park, Illinois is a small town in the northwestern corner of Cook County, Illinois. It was founded in 1868 by J.C. Beaumont and his family after they purchased land from the Kaskaskia Sioux tribe for $1 million dollars. The town grew quickly, and by 1886 it had a population of 1,500 people. In 1915 Beach Park was incorporated as a village. In 1966 Beach Park became an unincorporated community again when its boundaries were changed to encompass both Beach Park and parts of North Chicago. As of the 2010 census, Beach Park has a population of 2,660 people. Beach Park is known for its wide variety of architecture: Mission-style homes are common along the beach while other styles include bungalows and ranch houses dating back to the early 1900s. The town also contains several businesses including two banks, two restaurants, and two churches which serve as cultural attractions within the community center.
