In 1914, three years after Julius Rosenwald's closure of Floridian Café, Joe Brandtopened his Jerry Lewis Cafeteria at 9th & State Streets. This café quickly became a favorite among locals and tourists alike due to its high-quality coffee products as well as its great customer service. In 1948, Jerry Lewis Cafe merged with Dutch Bros., which later became McDonalds restaurant number 1 on Old State Street in Beach Park proper (now part of McCormick Place). After World War II ended, many small businesses closed down within town due to economic reasons; however, one coffee shop that survived the closures was Dutch Bros.' Sunrise Cafeteria on Third Street near US Highway 2 (now part of Wrigley Field).Dutch Bros.' Sunrise Cafeteria reopened in 1951 thanks to a group of local businessmen who pooled their money togetheralfor a new business venture; however, it quickly shut down again due to lack of customers and finances later that same year. Finally, Peet's Coffee Shop opened up on Roosevelt Road just east of Red Lobster during 1956-1957 when local entrepreneurs Donny & Shirley Peet donated $50000 towards the establishmentof this unique coffee shop located right next doorto what is now Wrigley Field!

The park was originally named Beach View but was renamed to its current name in 1922. According to the 2010 census, Beach Park has a population of over 20,000 people. The history of Beach Park began with the land that it now sits on. The first mention of beach activity comes from a deed from John Haggerty to David Morehouse dated January 24th, 1789. At that time the land for which Beach Park is today was part of the town of Evanston. It is interesting to note that at this time Evanston consisted only of a few homes and businesses and there was no public beach or oceanfront property within their boundaries. It wasn't until four years later when another deed was filed for land which would become known as Beach Park. This document belonged to Isaac Noyes and his wife Sarah Prentice Noyes. It states: "Beach Park Shall contain two lots...On one lot...There shall be erected a house...And on another lot...A wharf shalt be built." In 1876 an act passed by the state legislature called for development of Peoria's coastline including beachfront property adjacent to what is now Beach Park Boulevard/Bay Road/State Route 183 housed within what would become East Peoria Township (later annexed into Chicago). Because this new shoreline coincided with Peoria's growth as an industrial center following World War I, developers saw potential in creating an exclusive enclave specifically for residents living near Lake Michigan with access to all manner of nature resources (i.e., beaches). In 1851, two brothers, Isaac and Amos Beach bought a piece of land on the shores of the Illinois River. This became known as Beach Park. The Beaches developed a dairy and cattle business, which continued until 1860. In 1870, they started an insurance company and in 1876 built a home at 3200 E.Beach Park Ave., which was still in use by the family until 1959. The original house is now used as a museum.
