The United States Air Force provides a vital service in the military and has a rich history of deploying forces to various parts of the world. One such deployment was the Beach Park gift history. In 1959, then-Captain Edward Condon, assigned to the 5th Fighter Wing at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas, sponsored a visit by then-Lieutenant General Curtis LeMay, Commander of United States Strategic Command. Captain Condon was impressed with what he saw and decided to create an air force gift history as a means of appreciation for his men and their services. Since its creation in 1959, the American Forces Service Museum (AFSM) has been honoring USAF members through displays and events that celebrate their unique servicemaking traditions. The museum’s collection includes items from every branch of service and represents more than 4 million items from across America’s Armed Forces. The AFSM is located on Fort Worth Army Base in Richardson, Texas, home to Headquarters USAAF/United States Air Force Security Assistance Command (USEAC). Beach Park is a small town located in McHenry County, Illinois. The population was 1,874 at the 2010 census. The community was organized on November 3, 1879 by J.P. Beale and Elisha Webster from parts of the town of Geneva which had been burned down during the American Civil War. The first post office in Beach Park was established on December 8, 1879. It was called Post Office Grove and was located just east of present-day Court Street. In 1881, the post office relocated to its current location on Center Street within the town limits. In 1928, Beach Park became a part of Chicago and lost its status as an independent municipality; it became part of the city's North Side district. Today, Beach Park features a variety of businesses including two churches (Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints and Methodist), four convenience stores/grocery stores, three restaurants (Bagel Bites at Joe's Cafe & Deli, Golden Corral BBQ restaurant and Old World Pizza), two banks (First National Bank and Peoples State Bank), one library (Beach Park Public Library) along with several small businesses such as ceramic tile company Jimenez Tile Co., automotive rebuilder Kaiser Car Care Inc., home improvement retailer Home Depot and printing shop First Printing News Group Ltd.. There is also a fullsized golf course operated by Andrews Golf Course Management Company Pty Ltd., which borders South Shore Boulevard on one side and Playground Drive on the other side of Beaches Road.
Beach Park was created in 1892 when the Illinois General Assembly approved a bill to annex land around the then- existing town of Collinsville. The original Beach Park consisted of only a few acres, but it quickly became a popular spot for swimming and picnicking. By 1915, Beach Park had grown to over 10 acres and hosted both public and private events such as dances, baseball games, and concerts. In 1922, Beach Park was annexed by the neighboring town of Hollandale and became part of that community's official history.
