In 1901, Angelo De Benedetti purchased the Castelli Coffee Company and continued to operate it until his death in 1922. After De Benedetti's death, his son Giovanni took over management of the company and continue expanding production capacity until he sold it off to Jourdain et Cie., a Belgian importer, in 1938. Bartlett is a small town in the Illinois River Valley in eastern Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Bartlett was John Bartlett, who arrived in 1837. He named his farm "Barton" after his home village of Barton-on-the-Humber in England. In 1871, John and three other settlers founded the Town of Bartlett on a tract of land they had purchased from the government for $1 per acre (US). On July 4, 1871, about fifty people gathered at John's home to celebrate their incorporation as a town. The first post office was established at Bartlett on November 8th, 1872. The first store was built on Main Street in 1901 by Wm Halsey & Sons; it closed down around 1917 due to lack of business interest or competition from other stores near by. In 1916, Alvah Mills constructed a large new mill and marketing center which became known as "Millsburgh". The Village Board erected a wooden frame building which served as their courthouse until it burned down on April Fool's Day 1965; replacement court facilities were built nearby instead and remain in use to this day. They had six more children before Sarah Ann died in 1901. John Bartlett passed away in 1915 and his wife, Sarah Ann, also passed away in 1931. As a result of their deaths, both houses at "Bartlett" were inherited by their four grandchildren: Arlene Wright-Bartlett (1901-1984), James Ewing Wright Jr.- bartley (1902-1998), Shirley Wright-Moses (1945-2014), and Edwin Moses Wright III-(born 1948). Today's residents of "Bartlett" are considered descendants of John Bartletts through his four grandchildren: Arlene Wright-bartley; James Ewing Wright Jr.-bartley; Shirley Wright-Moses; Edwin Moses Wright III-. The history of Barthleton goes back much further than this point as there are references to the town from as early as 1795 when an act was passed by the legislature which provided for a patent for 1400 acres extending from present day Tomball Road eastward to what is now State Street . This land belonged to General George Washington who had purchased it from the Iroquois Confederacy some time prior . By 1800, most or all of what is now Barthleton had been developed including brickyards and other civilian buildings . There were no military posts or settlements within Barthleton boundaries during this time period as it was part of Lake Michigan territory under British rule
