Bartlett is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Elgin (CNE) metropolitan area. The village dates back to 1833 and was named for Francis Bartlett, an early settler. In 1838, the society of Friends Meeting House erected a log cabin on what is now east side of town. A post office was established in 1839 and later renamed Bartlett after George Washington Bartlett, one of its original directors. In 1840, the first gristmill in Bartlett was built by John Pritchard and James Healey. The mill continued to run until 1889 when it became part of the Northwestern Lumber Company's Illinois Division mill complex along with other mills in Park Ridge and North Lawndale. The present school district was organized in 1907 when two adjacent townships were merged into Cook County: Grant Township to the south and northwest, and Elgin Township to the east and southeast. On July 1, 1911 voters approved a measure authorizing unified school financing through assessment districts; this led to annexation by neighboringJudge Road Township on October 1 of that year effective retroactive to July 1st On February 7th 1916 local businessmen leased from US Steel Corporation a section of La Salle Street between Westcott Avenue and South State Street which would become home to Chicago's first "Plymouth" Mills located near Fullerton Avenue/State Street intersection later bought by Sears Roebuck & Co.. The company closed down in 1957 but left behind many artifacts including several looms used at Plymouth Mill ruins today located on University Drive across from East High School which house city services operated out of these buildings during prohibition era . Today there are three large vacant lots next door each totaling over 100 feet long filled with derelict materials from past operations
The Coast Guard has been a part of American society for over 350 years. In that time, the Coast Guard has become an important part of our economy and culture. The Coast Guard gift history is reflective of this history. Origins The Coast Guard was founded on Decatur Island in 1788 as a collection of volunteer sailors under the command of Commodore John Adams. The first coast guard cutter, HMS Echo, was launched in 1807 and served until 1815 when it was replaced by HM brig Sloop Grafton. It was not until 1821 that the first permanent coast guard station was erected on Governors Island and this began to provide protection along the Atlantic seaboard. In 1827, the first steamer service between New York City and Boston started operations. During World War II, the Coast Guard played an important role in both world wars by providing emergency assistance to Americans ashore during both conflicts. During peacetime, however, the Coast Guard did not expand its role significantly until after 9/11 when it became clear that terrorists could use maritime transportation to travel from country to country smuggling weapons and explosives into America. As a result of these events, Congress passed legislation establishing Operation Neptune’s Spear which directed the Coast Guard to intensify its interceptions of smuggling vessels off America’s coasts. In recent years, more attention has been paid to global warming which has led to an increase in demand for coastal security solutions such as enhanced visibility technology and warning systems for ships using GPS tracking technology or digital charting systems equipped with infrared sensors designed to detect submarines- all activities that can be disrupted by bad weather or pirates (Diaz). Bartlett, Illinois is a small town located in Kane County, Illinois. The community was named for Lewis Bartlett, an early settler. The population of Bartlett was 2,500 at the time of the 2010 census. The first settlers to the area were farmers and their families who arrived in the mid-19th century. By 1870, Bartlett had a blacksmith shop and two stores. In 1881, a post office was established in the community and by 1907 it had five residents. A fire destroyed much of the town on November 6, 1907; however, all residents were able to rebuild quickly with help from friends and family. In 1916, Bartlett became one of six communities in Kane County to become part of the Chicago metropolitan area. In 1950 it became one of its fifty-one municipalities when Cook County was formed out of portions of Kane and Will counties. In 1967–1968 Bartlett voters passed a resolution authorizing annexation by Rockford Township which happened two years later on October 1st during an election held before that township's incorporation into Rockford as well as other changes within Kane County due to consolidation efforts at that time. The population size has since decreased slightly due mostly to commuting issues between Bartlett and Rockford but there are plans underway for development near both townships' borders with new housing opportunities available closer to both places as well as potential tourist attractions like hunting preserves accessible only from either municipality or through nearby villages such as Winnebago City or Galesburg
Bartlett was first settled in 1851 by the Illinois Territorial Legislature. It was organized as a town in 1857, and became a city in 1907. The population of Bartlett peaked at 20,000 in 1950, but has since declined to 11,500.
