The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of deploying gifts to its citizens. Here is a look at some of our favorite air force gifts from past years: 1) A plane ticket – This year was no different for the USAF as they sent two planes on delivery! One took off from Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio on December 8th and flew to New York City, while the other arrived at LaGuardia Airport in Queens on December 9th. The gift was met with much acclaim by recipients who were finally able to see what all the fuss is about when it comes to flying in an American Airlines jet! 2) Commander in Chief George Washington’s own silver plate coffee set – Upon George Washington’s death, his family left him several pieces of valuable equipment including this sterling silver coffee set. This beautiful piece was donated to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and now resides within their collections. 3) A guitar – In 2013, we saw one of our favorite USAF deployments yet when agents from Hickam AFB stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam sent out a guitar as a gift for local music lovers! 4) An iPad – In 2012, we saw another great USAF deployment when USAF agents sent tablets as gifts for local school children! 5) A dog chew toy – Another great USAF deployment came in 2011 when troops from Eglin AFB travelled down south to give away dog chew toys as part of Operation “Pawsitively Good For Dogs”! 6) Two sets of golf clubs – We cannot forget about 2006’s great gift exchange between USAAF troopers stationed at Rhein-Main Airbase and their German counterparts at Ellingen Air Base! 7) A Corvette – It seems every few years something new comes into our airspace courtesy of the USAF! 2008 brought us this amazing Corvette as part ofOperation Mockingbird which aimed to show China that America still remembered howto play fair?

On Dec. 15, 2009, the Aurora-based Illinois Air National Guard's 514th Airlift Wing deployed a C-130 cargo plane to provide military personnel and supplies to troops in Afghanistan. The gift history of the aircraft began on Nov. 25, 2009, when it was donated by Northwest Airlines to the Illinois Air National Guard through its AFGHANISTAN GIVING program. The C-130 transport plane arrived in Kabul on Nov. 30 and unloaded itsloads of goods at a military base before flying back home to Bearsville, Ill., for storage. On Dec. 1, 2009, Northwest Airlines donated another C-130 transport plane - this time from Minneapolis/St Paul International Airport - to the Illinois Air National Guard through its AFGHANISTAN GIVING program in memory of fallen service members from that country who have fought in Afghanistan since 2001.

Here are some of the more famous deployments and gifts that have been given to members of the USAF: In 1961, General James Van Fleet donated a new A-4 Skyhawk Fighter Aircraft to the USAF for use in Operation Neptune's Spear. This gift was seen as an important victory for the USAF and helped solidify their air superiority over North Vietnam. In 1995, General William Perry donated a Boeing 727 Airlift Aircraft to be used in supporting Operation Restore Hope in Afghanistan. This donation was seen as another important success for the USAF and helped improve U.S.-Saudi relations while also providing essential assistance to local forces fighting against Taliban militants. In 1999, General Hugh Shelton gifted two F-15C fighter aircraft to the USAF for use during Operation Enduring Freedom. These aircraft were instrumental in helping secure numerous strategic targets across Afghanistan while also providing air cover for ground forces on multiple occasions. In 2006, Admiral John Richardson gifted two Boeing E-4B Joint Strike Fighters to the USAF for use during Operation Neptune's Spear II. These planes were used extensively throughout both operations and played a vital role in stabilizing skies over Iraq and Syria before withdrawing from those countries in 2014.

Aurora was founded on November 4, 1875 by George Stephenson and named after Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights. It became a city on December 15, 1907. The current Mayor of Aurora is Sara Burdick and she has been mayor since January 1st of 2018. Aurora is located in the north-central part of Kane County and straddles the border of Cook County to the south. With a total area of , it has a population density of . According to the 2010 census, there are also several small villages within Aurora's boundaries - Deerfield Township to the east and west; Plainfield Township to the north; Glendale Heights Village to its northwest; Winona Lake Village to its southeast; and North Aurora Village to its southwest. The city today consists largely of single-family homes built prior to 1959 as well as some commercial areas dating back to that time: downtown (now known as "The Loop"), South Dearborn Street/Skokie Boulevard (formerly "Central Avenue"), Villa Park Mall, North Dearborn Street/Park Road (formerly State Road), Archer Road (formerly known as West Side Highway), and numerous other smaller streets or lanes around these older neighborhoods. There are also several large apartment complexes located in or near Downtown Chicago such as One University Plaza & Tower IMAX 1280 feet long with an adjacent restaurant called Olive Garden located on top which offers panoramic views from their rooftop bar over Cook County Jail and nearby skyscrapers including one called Willis Tower which reaches 653 stories high! Most notably however is perhaps Skokie Boulevard itself which still remains one of Chicago's most popular tourist destinations for walks along this cobblestone street made famous by Alice Paul's song "It Ain't Necessarily So" originally recorded by Mahalia Jackson featuring Joe Bonamassa
The first settlers in Aurora, Illinois were the Betts family. They arrived in 1820 and built a cabin on the banks of the Rock River. The nucleus of this early community was formed by families who had come to the area from Kentucky, Indiana, and other areas in the Midwestern United States. Aurora grew rapidly after its incorporation as a town in 1847. By 1860, it had a population of over 100 people. In 1865, Aurora became a village and soon developed into an important commercial center for eastern Illinois. At its peak, Aurora boasted a manufacturing sector that included meatpacking plants, paper mills, and agricultural products businesses. However, during the 1970s and 1980s there was significant decline in activity at these facilities; however, they continue to be used for storage or occasionally used as part of larger industrial complexes elsewhere in Illinois. In recent years there has been some effort to revive interest in Aurora as a tourist destination; however this is not without its challenges given the high cost of infrastructure necessary to support such visitation.
