Higgins on December 4, 1892. Higgins was hired from a neighboring town and began his duty that night. At that time, Arlington Heights had only two policemen and Higgins served as their captain for three years before he was promoted to sergeant. In 1896, Arlington Heights became one of the first municipalities in Illinois to adopt a municipal police department model and at that time Capt. John Aiken assumed command of the department. Aiken would later become the first Chief of Police in Chicago. In 1903, Sgt. Arthur Sibley joined the department and continued serving until his retirement on September 1, 1916 while stillserving as an officer with this jurisdictionally designated force within its own jurisdictional limits - something unheard of at that time! During Sgt Sibley’s tenure as an officer, many important changes occurred within the department including: establishment of a crime laboratory; erection of a new barracks; purchase of new equipment; creation of units such as Narcotics Unit and Traffic Investigation Unit; addition of officers for dispatch services; establishment Of canine unit; birth (on October 25th)of Arlington Heights’ first patrol car which patrolled city streets during peak hours! The late1920s throughearly30s were difficult times for policing in America due to World War II which interrupted many activities within law enforcement agencies across America including those in our backyard! However, Lt Col Edward Jorgensen arrived on January 1st 1933 with fresh blood to help resume policing operations after reconstruction in America following WWII ended! Under Lt Col Jorgensen’s command both Patrolmen squads were re-established which helped reduce crime rates throughout most parts of town while also freeing up more officers to do other assignments! Additionally during Lt Col Jorgensen’s tenure there were several important advancements made within our apparatus such as construction or acquisition (through grants)of additional vehicles including motorcycles and radios! This period is often referred to as “The Golden Age”of policing in Arlington Heights thanks largely theretofore unappreciated advances by our valiant lieutenant colonel!! It should be noted however that some members electedLtCol Jorgensen into office against his will resultingin him having less power than he once did!!! Nevertheless under Lt ColJorgensen's guidance progress has been made both politically AND organizationally back home!!! Today we continue this proud tradition annually honoringLtCol Jorgensen who passed away on February 15th 2018 at age 84 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The village of Arlington Heights was formed on November 3, 1892 from part of the towns of Plainfield and Westchesterville. Arlington Heights, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 57,815 at the 2010 census. It is the ninth most populous city in Illinois and the second most populous in the Chicago metropolitan area after Chicago. Arlington Heights is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Combined Statistical Area. It lies on Lake Michigan just east of downtown Chicago and to its north-west is Evanston Township. The first settlers in what was to become Arlington Heights were farmers who arrived around 1836 from Holland and Germany. By 1840 they had organized into two villages: Hennepin and ArlingtonVillages. On December 3, 1846, John Richardson donated land for a town center near present day Interstate 90 and State Street. The town site was chosen because it would be easy to find water supplies for farming purposes and also because it would provide a place for residents to gather for religious services (Churchill). Richardson's donation included an alley leading from his home to State Street so that people could access goods available only by boat or wagon from Holland or other parts of North America. In 1849 members of the American Philosophical Society met at Hennepin Village Hall to discuss plans for a new college within their society's walls (Richardson). On January 15th of that year trustees voted unanimously in favor of building a seminary on land donated by Reverend Samuel Morse (Morse). Construction began on what became known as "the Old College" on November 17th 1850 under the direction of Revs Drury & Goodyear (Goodyear). The cornerstone was laid upon October 12th 1851 by President Millard Fillmore with Mayor John Prentice presiding (Prentice). With over $5,000 worth of donations contributed by citizens throughout Cook County, work continued apace until September 1861 when all college classes were discontinued due to lack funding; however, many professors remained behind to continue teaching classes post-war as part of Reconstruction efforts (Hancock/Liu). When World War I ended hostilities in April 1918 there were few survivors left living anywhere outside Europe so much less America so Professor Hancock decided it might make sense financially revive Columbia University which he’d been conceptualizing since 1915 when he founded Teachers College at Columbia University – one hundred years earlier! In 1919 he leased out Stuyvesant Town High School across 110th street from Harlem Renaissance playwright Langston Hughes who’d visited campus during lunch recess one day while walking his dogger back home after playing catch with some friends nearby; Columbia then offered him use of its football stadium which he utilized until 1941 (!), hosting Yale vs Princeton games intermittently through 1951 before sellingange property adjacent to still extant Stadium beginning in 1954 thereby becoming Harvard Yard ! In 1945 President Harry Truman announced “It has been my opinion that education should not be Hellerized but should develop along lines Hegemony has decreed” thus providing Washington Park now contiguous with both campuses !! That concept continues today !! Upon Truman’s death “Hegemony terminated forever any hope that our educational institutions might reach parity with those enjoyed by our great universities abroad” therefore makingHarvardYardoneofnationalacademicandculturalproperty!!
Arlington Heights was founded in 1892 as a small community of farmers and their families. The first settlers were members of the First Methodist Church, which was built on the present site of the Arlington Heights Recreation Center in 1893. The community grew rapidly due to its location at the intersection of two major north-south routes and its access to water resources. By 1915, Arlington Heights had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1916, Arlington Heights became one of the first towns in Illinois to be incorporated as a village. The village common was donated by local landowners to help support the growth of the community. In 1928, Arlington Heights annexed part of neighboring Wheaton. The 1940s saw significant changes to Arlington Heights with the arrival of new residents from outlying areas such as Downers Grove and Lombard. During this time, many businesses opened up within the boundaries of what is now known as "Arlington Heights." Many prominent citizens during this time included Dr. Harry Bridges (founder and medical director for Cook County Hospital), Mrs. John Fenton (founder and first woman City Manager for Chicago), Mr. Edward Ladd (founder and CEO for Sears Holdings), Msgr., Bernard Kappeler (bishop emeritus at Holy Cross Catholic Cathedral in Chicago), Mayor Richard J. Daley (later elected governor of Illinois), Drs., Sidney Minsky (Nobel laureate in physics) and Herbert Simon (co-founder with Henry Ford IIof American Motors). In recent years, much has changed within Arlington Heights with concerns being voiced about gentrification; however, despite this development there has been an overall increase in population density over recent decades making it one of South Side's most vibrant communities today
