The township of Spring Grove became an independent Village on January 1st, 1951. Angels Landing State Park is located adjacent to Antioch and features over 100 feet (30 meters) high cliffs made out of hard limestone that offer beautiful views into Carbondale and surrounding townships from several vantage points including Angels Landing Cliff House which overlooks Carbondale Lake and Honesdale Reservoir.

Today, there are a few remaining businesses that remain important to Township government but overall significant portions of Antioch have become abandoned or Video Games
Antioch was founded in 1824 by John Jeremiah Sullivan and James K. Polk, both of whom were natives of New York. The town became a center for the Illinois Valley Railroad, and Businessman George Rogers Clark also located there. Antioch is home to the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and the Antioch Junior/Senior High School.
