Vandenberg, Commander-in-Chief of U.S. Strategic Air Forces Europe (USAFSPE), announced to the nation that the United States would establish a strategic air force. The USAFSPE was created as part of NATO and its purpose was to provide support for West Germany’s air defense system and deter aggression by other nations against that country. One important part of USAFSPE’s mission was providing gifts to members of Congress during their annual “gift season” – a time when members returned from Washington D.C., where they were attending meetings related to national security issues, and brought back items such as radios or clothing in order to show their appreciation for America’s military contributions during the Cold War. In 1949, General Vandenberg made it mandatory for all members of the USAFSPE to receive a gift each year at Christmas in order to show our appreciation for their service and dedication to our country. The tradition continued until 1957 when Gifts For The People Act became law which prohibited member agencies from giving gifts except through individual donations within five years after an event had taken place. This provided an opportunity for member agencies to commemorate special occasions or events with unique gifts that would be remembered long after they occurred. Antioch, Illinois is a small city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Antioch is the second-largest city in Cook County after Chicago. The cultural district of Antioch has been called "the Arts District" and "the 5th Avenue Arts District." It is home to Antioch College and Antioch University (Ohio), both private universities. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Antioch were French missionaries who founded the mission of Notre Dame de la Salle on July 16, 1795. The Jesuits built a Jesuit college here in 1814 which became known as the University of Notre Dame de la Salle. In 1847, the State of Illinois took over responsibility for education within Cook County and merged with Notre Dame de la Salle into that state's new educational system; however, due to a lack of funds from Congress, the university continued to operate separately until it merged with Northwestern University in 1870. With its growing population and commercial interests dating back to early days as a result of its location near Urbana-Champaign (now Urbana) on Interstate 55 between Chicago and Milwaukee (then part of Wisconsin), Antioch grew rapidly as an agricultural center during the 19th century but stalled during prohibition because prohibition forced farmers out of alcohol production before it had a significant impact on their businesses. As recently as 1940 only 1% of Antioch's workforce was composed of women; today this number reaches almost 30%. In 1933–1934 five thousand people were bussed into town by local churches for two weeks during World War II when ammunition dumps were located nearby and there was food available for everyone including those who didn't have homes to go to if war started or if they had jobs they couldn't leave because they were needed at home. Postwar growth included suburban development surrounding downtown while several blocks east along Washington Street strips away residential neighborhoods developed around high school stockyards anchored by Stryker Army Ammunition Plant No 3 which closed in 1984 leaving many families homeless experiencing one form or another economic hardship over ensuing decades until finally demolition began in 2006 resulting in new housing developments across Washington Street adjacent toStryker Army Ammunition Plant No 3 site

Antioch, Illinios is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is the county seat of Antioch and has a population of about 30,000 as of the 2010 census. The community was founded by George Washington in 1795. By 1871, it had become a railway junction and served as the primary business center for much of Cook County. In 1933, Antioch College opened its doors to students from all over Illinois. Today, Antioch College remains one of the most respected educational institutions in Cook County. The history of Antioch begins with George Washington's arrival in 1795 on his way to purchase land grants from the French and Indian War veterans at Kaskaskia River. The land chosen for the future village was located near what is now Chicago on rapidly flowing streams that flowed into Lake Michigan called Old Orchard Creek because many orchards were located thereabouts. The first settlers arrived early in 1796 and soon began building their homes on abandoned military posts along Old Orchard Creek which they named "New Zion." The original post office was established at New Zion in 1797 and remained operational until 1801 when it was moved to Antioch due to growing competition from other villages within Cook County such as Bucktown (now Chi-Town), Hammondsville (now Arlington Heights), North Side (now West Side) and Oak Park (now River Grove). In 1830, when Illinois became a state under the Articles of Confederation, Antioch became part of Illinois but retained its separate civil government with an elected mayor and city council who met at City Hall on State Street between Clarkston Avenue and Randolph Street whereWashington Hall still stands today. During this time, local businesses such as grocery stores flourished while manufacturing continued to grow nearby including wagon wheel manufactories producing goods needed by farmers throughout Illinois It wasn't until1841 that effective annexation by Chicago caused Antioch's municipal boundaries to change significantly with portions lying within Cook Countyession becoming Grayslake Township while others surrounding present day Chicago went Unincorporated territory . Today much of what used to be downtown Antioch remains commercialized with numerous large buildings dating back to these early days like City Hall which is also home to today's Mayor's Office & Business Center addition which replaced an earlier structure erected during World War I . In 1933 after years of growth among both students & businesses alike led by Superintendent John Smedley who later served as Mayor himself ,the first high school education program outside Of Ohio opened its doors here at City Hall across from Mother Emanuel School !! This event marked not only a milestone for our town but also ushered in a new era for our educational community culminating decades later with rise Of Our Alma Mater - ANTIOCH COLLEGE
The Antioch, Illinois community was founded in 1824. The first post office in the community was established in 1827. The population of Antioch increased rapidly from its early years, and by 1840 it had reached 2,000 residents. By 1850, the population had grown to 5,000 people and by 1860 it had reached 10,000 people. In 1870, the Antioch Normal School was organized and opened for students. In 1875, a rail line linking Chicago with Grand Rapids was constructed and the town began to grow quickly as a result. By 1900, there were 15 businesses in Antioch and the population had swollen to 25,000 people.
