The Marine Corps has been deployed in many different places throughout history. One of the most famous deployments was during World War II when they were sent to Alton, Illinois to provide support for the war effort. One of the more recent donations is a set of statues of marines with rifles. This was made in memory of Lance Corporal Christopher J. Duffey who died while fighting in Afghanistan. Duffey was a marine who served with distinction and had heroism within his unit. His death caused immense sadness within the marines and it has led to this donation in his memory.

Alton, Illinois is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,821 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is derived from Alton Township and Alton Rural District. The first settlers in what is now Alton were white people who came to the area in 1820. They named their community after John Fenton, an early settler in neighboring Peoria County. In 1827, Alton became the capital of Kane County and its first city hall was built on State Street near present-day Civic Center Park. However, by 1830 all of Kane County had been annexed into Cook County and Alton ceased to exist as a municipality. In 1861, when Illinois became a state and General James Kansa moved his military forces into central Illinois following the Civil War, he called for citizens of central Illinois to rise up against slavery and declare themselves free states. A group of citizens from Alton gathered together and decided to secede from Cook County and form their own state called Iowa Territory (now Des Moines). When they failed to gain enough support from other counties within Iowa Territory to make it an independent state, they disbanded their group and returned home in 1862. In 1865 when General George Armstrong Custer attacked Fort Leavenworth northwest of Chicago during the American Civil War with his cavalry unit known as "The White River Boys", many residents living near Fort Leavenworth took refuge inside the fort walls until reinforcements could arrive. Afterward most residents chose not to return home because Reconstruction policies that followed made it difficult for them to find work or rebuild their homes after the war ended without help from those who had caused so much destruction during the conflict. In 1887 Mayor Hiram Johnson organized a meeting in downtown Alton that resulted in creation of what is now Calumet City Council District No 2 which surrounds much of Downtown Alton today including portions that once constituted parts ofAlton Township including Main Street between Government Road (now First Avenue) and North Side Road (now East Side Drive), Broadway between East Side Drive and South Side Drive; Market Place; School House Square; Masonic Temple; Southern Pacific Railroad Depot on West side driveway next door to Masonic Temple - all properties east of Third Street which are included within present day City limits ; also lot located at corner Third Street/Broadway with Elm Streets extending northerly therefrom back then back down along Elm Streets past Market Place before turning northeast on Meetinghouse Lane where Fourth Street intersects Elm Streets today Connecting these lots would have extended one block north or south depending on street frontage then continuing east or west across alleyways leading towards Meetinghouse Square currently located just east off 4thStreet
The Marine Corps has a long and colorful history of deploying gift-giving units to various locations around the world. From the early days of Marines when they were just a unit of young men sworn to serve their country, through World War II and Cold War deployments, the Corps has always been an organization that loves to give back. Since its inception in 1866, the Marines have deployed gift-giving detachments on numerous occasions. The first detachment was called the “Gift Troops” and was composed of officers and enlisted men who collected donations from friends and family in order to send money home for troops at war. Over time, other gift-giving detachments were created including “Paws for Peace” which contributed dog food rations to Allied forces during World War II; “Marine Camaraderie” which sent childrens toys or candy from local military bases throughout Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War; and finally, “Gift Squadron” which donated clothes, books, radios, or anything else needed by troops stationed abroad. Overall, these Gift Squadron detachments have given back millions of dollars in value to many people across America. It is clear that the Marines are an organization that truly cares about giving back – something that is evident in their dedication to sending gifts as a way of showing support for their soldiers overseas.

Alton, Illinois is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Alton has been nicknamed "The hometown of the Cubs" because of its long and proud history with professional baseball. Alton was founded on December 12, 1824 by Ebenezer Alger and others as a farmstead called Alger's Station. In 1827, Alger sold his share in the farm to John Jacob Astor for $2,000. On October 8, 1829, Alton became one of the towns in Kane County when it was organized from parts of four other towns: Burlington (now Elgin), Grayslake (now Lake Forest Park), Winona (now Rockford), and Stephenson (now St Joseph). The first post office at Alton was established on December 12, 1824. The name change to Alton on November 30th 1840 due to an increase in mail volume caused by an influx of settlers into the area following General Anthony Wayne's invasion of Canada during that year's War Between the States. At that time there were only five residents in Alton; all but two moved out after General Wayne's troops destroyed most or all farming operations within three weeks of their arrival in late February/early March 1840 In 1847/48 a group led by Daniel Drake purchased land east of town and began developing what would become known as Drake Heights which today includes much of downtown Alton Alton took its current form as a village on December 1st 1860 when citizens voted to incorporate under the name "Almont". The first mayor was Lorenzo Sutter with responsibility for local government until 1870 when Mayor George Hildreth assumed control In 1886-1887 Amos Kendall increased production at his coal mine near present day Interstate 90 while other entrepreneurs built businesses throughout early 20th century rural areas such as those found around Chicago including some now considered core neighborhoods like North Lawndale and Englewood
Alton was founded in 1836 by Isaac Alcorn, a white man and his black slave, Jemima. The town grew rapidly due to its proximity to the Illinois Central Railroad, which made it easy for people to get around. In 1854, Alton became the seat of district court for Cass County. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Alton was occupied by Confederate forces until Union forces took control. After the war ended, Alton continued to grow slowly as a result of its close proximity to Chicago. In 1903, Alton became a city and retains that status today.
