Alton, Illinois is a small town located in the northwest corner of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 8,925 as of the 2010 census. Alton is one of the oldest settlements in Cook County and has been inhabited by Native Americans for over three hundred years. The first European to visit Alton was Captain John Smith in 1779. In 1847, General James K. Polk visited Alton on his way from Quincy to Springfield. At that time, Alton had a population of only seventy-five people. In 1872, Jesse Hardin opened the first grocery store in Alton and developed an early industry in this small town. By 1888, there were six grocery stores operating in Alton with a total business value of $30,000. By 1907, there were thirteen businesses operating in Alton with a combined business value of $183,500. In 1919, United States Senator Robert Meller took office after winning election against incumbent Addison Wicker. After serving two terms as U.S senator, Meller retired from politics to focus on his agricultural interests and died at age ninety-eight on July 21st,. His son Bob Meller became U S Senator and served until he left office on January 3rd,, 2007

Alton is a small town in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 3,847 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Alton was platted in 1871 by John H. Black and his brother Amos P. Black as a rudimentary village on the west side of what is now Canal Street in downtown Chicago. The village rapidly grew due to its convenient location on the west bank of the Chicago River and its close proximity to railroads and other businesses. In 1881, Alton became an incorporated village with a population of 1,500. In 1906, Alton voters passed a referendum asking for annexation into the city of Chicago; however, this request was rejected by Mayor Richard J. Daley because Alton's business interests excluded it from being considered as one of Chicagos most important economic areas On May 15th, 1915, during World War I veteran job-training camp called "Camp Cook" (later Camp Cook Armory) located at North Avenue and State Street in Alton—the first such camp ever set up in that community—a large explosion took place which destroyed much property including several homes and killed twenty-four people. This event is commonly referred to as "The Great Explosion." One hundred years later on May 15th, 2015 another large explosion took place when fuel oil tanks belonging to Midwest Energy Corporation exploded near US 31 northbound approaching Canal Street in northwest suburban Cook County during early morning hours after heavy rains had caused flooding throughout much of Cook County . This event became known as "The Oil Tanker Explosion".

After tasting real human flesh for the first time he decided against continuing his expedition into what is now Central America since he realized that it would be very hazardous trying to explore these vast areas with no food or water resources left behind him (Kemp 1993). However, over time Spanish explorers discovered various new regions including parts unknown until then including present day Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina where Coffeeplease originated From! Alton was a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. Alton is located on the banks of the Kankakee River. It became a town in 1879 and was named after Alanson, Massachusetts. The first settler in what is now Alton was George Wickersham. He built a cabin on the site of present-day Alton on July 25, 1820. Wickersham's cabin is still standing and can be seen from the Kankakee Riverwalk near Interstate 670. For many years it served as an important stop for travelers along the river because of its location close to both public transportation and major agricultural routes. In 1835, John Stephenson founded Stephensonville to serve as a center for trade with surrounding farming communities around him. By 1840, Stephensonville had become an important commercial hub with several stores and two churches. The town quickly grew into a sizeable community with over 100 residents by 1860 when it absorbed neighboring towns of East Dundee and West Dundee. In 1870, when Illinois became an Ulysses S Grant state, Alton joined other communities in celebration by erecting a large brick courthouse that remains standing today within sight of Main Street Baptist Church across from the Kankakee Riverwalk plaza
Alton, Illinois is a city in the Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,854 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sangamon County. Alton was founded in 1809 and incorporated as a town in 1827. The first settler to arrive in what is now Alton was Isaac French, who arrived on November 3, 1809. He built a cabin on a hill near Alton's current location and named it "Frenchtown". Frenchtown served as the nucleus of what would become Alton. A second settler, John Cook (1793-1864), moved into what is now north central Alton in 1814 and started to build out a farm around his cabin called "Cookesville". Cookesville would eventually become part of downtown Alton. In 1825, James Ketchum purchased land east of Cookesville from Dutchman George Beeson for $150 dollars. Ketchum began to build a house on this property which he called "Ketchum's Grove", later renamed "Alanson". In 1830, he marriedElizabeth Beeson and their son James Ketchum Jr., also became an important figure in early Alton history. In 1827, when Chicago was founded by Alexander Hamilton as the new capital of America, representatives from both Chicago and Sangamon Counties met at what is now Lockport to consider possible site for the new city’s county seat. The vote resulted in Sangamon County being chosen over Chicago because there were more trustees available for Sangamon than there were residents living withinChicago limits at that time! A committee was formed to find a permanent home for Algonquin Township (later renamed Sangamon County) but its search proved fruitless until Reverend Elijah Hicks bought 1/2 mile (1 km) northwest of present day downtownAlmonton Avenue from Solomon Northrop “North Pole” Crawford Decatur on March 2nd 1829 for $800 dollars with 5 percent interest payable every year thereafter! This purchase marked one of many significant purchases made by Reverend Hicks throughout his life including tracts of land adjoining present day Albany Road & Orleans Street just south side Of First Ward building!!! At this point Edmonton Ave may have been known as Ottawa Road after Ottawa River flowing through upper village
