Alsip is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 64,898 at the 2010 census. Alsip is the third most populous city in Cook County after Chicago and Evanston. The name "Alsip" comes from the Ojibwe word "alispi", meaning "a small stream." The first settlers in what is now Alsip Township were Germans who arrived from Bavaria in 1815. They built a log cabin on the north side of present-day High School Road just east of present-day State Street. The town was organized as a village on July 12, 1825 by James Fenton and others with a population of about twenty people. The first post office was established in 1827 and named for George Washington Carver (1775–1863), an American Revolutionary War general and member of the House of Representatives from Georgia. In 1837, John Hebard opened the first gristmill in Alsip Township; it still operates today under its original name, Hebard's Mill LLC. In 1840, Emil Schieffer founded his grocery store at 350 West State Street which became one of Illinois' largest food stores until it closed its doors in 1980. A year later, Jens Jensen opened a lumberyard at 414 North State Street which remains open to this day and has been home to many local businesses including Jenson's Lumber Company LLP since 1912. In 1865, Wm Hickey bought out Emil Schieffer's share in the grocery store for $2 million dollars and renamed it Hickey & Son Incorporated (later part of Jewel-Hickey). A new courthouse was built on West College Avenue between Adams Boulevard and Michigan Avenue around 1895; it served as both the municipal court seat for Alsip Township from 1889 until 1915 when that function was transferred to Aurora Municipal Court seat; also during this time period Alsip had six schools: three public schools (grades K-5th) operated by Aurora Elementary District No. 2; one private school ( grades 6th through 8th) operated by Mrs.[?] Ransom Learning Corporation; one religious school operated by Our Lady Of Loretto Parish—the only Catholic primary or middle school within five miles of Chicago—and two parochial schools operating separately (grades 5th through 8th) within ten blocks radius: Holy Name Catholic School on East Jefferson Boulevard adjacent to Stritch Park Golf Course; Blessed Sacrament Academy located off Lemont Road near Schaumburg Plaza Shopping Center;;[?][?][?] alaspi highschool briefly opened during this time but closed due to lack enrollment

It wasn’t until centuries later when warships began appearing on Greek coastal towns – probably around 350 BC – which allowed for better protection against pirates and other sea threats (although necessary armaments did not exist at that time). It is interesting to note that even though these early navies had limited success against Pirate raiders they did manage to protect many merchant ships from being looted or burned down by them (an event known as “the Golden Age of Piracy”). After centuries of peaceful sailing through largely uncharted waters our ancestors finally landed on what we now call Earth about 55 million years ago after four long journey through space/time! With this new knowledge came new opportunities for commerce and exploration!! We would be vastly improved sailors if it weren’t for all those terrible accidents involving our ships! :( Anyway lets move forward………. During World War II, Alsip played an important role as a destination for soldiers training at Camp Kilpatrick near Buffalo Grove IL; many men who would later lead America's wars were born or raised here including George Patton Jr., Dwight D Eisenhower and Timothy McVeigh
