Alsip is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,527 at the 2010 census. Alsip is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is one of the oldest towns in Cook County and has been around since 1837. The first settlers in Alsip were John and Jane Welles from Lancaster, England who arrived on July 24, 1837. They built a log cabin on the east side of present day Main Street and named it "Alsiphone". The Welles family had three children: James (1838-1902), Sarah (1840-1926) and John Fenton Welles (1842-1924). John Fenton Welles was a hardware merchant who resided in Alsiphone for 25 years before selling his business to Jacob Weingarten in 1884. Weingarten ran the business until he died in 1922. He was also an early settler and donated land to the town which became its square today. In 1881, local physician George Burt founded what would become Stinson Hospital; one of only two hospitals functioning as medical clinics at that time within Cook County. Today, Stinson Hospital still operates as a vital community resource providing primary care services to residents of Alsip and neighboring municipalities including Plainfield Township and Homan Township. A post office called Alsiphone was established in 1837 by John Welles with JF being his initial middle name; however this post office closed October 10th 1870 due to lack of mail arrival from abroad during that time period。

Alsip is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,048 at the 2010 census. Alsip is located on the north side of Chicago. It was founded by German immigrants in 1847. The first permanent settlers were Peter and Catherine Seligman, who arrived in 1851. They built a cabin on what is now the southeast corner of Alsip Avenue and Elm Street. In 1853, John Pritzker moved to Alsip from his previous home in Winnetka. He purchased 6 acres (2 ha) of land adjacent to present-day Alsip High School for $1 million dollars ($10 million today). Pritzker intended to use the land for farming but later renamed it "Pritzker Park". The first school in Alsip was built on what is now Elm Street in 1863 by Dr. Julius Wehner from Hinsdale, Illinois; it was known as "Mr. Wehner's Academy". In 1865, Isaac Nye set up shop here and began selling notions door to door with his wagon train which he called "Nye's Trading Post". In 1870–71, John Fenton added a grocery store and dry goods store to Nye's trading post; this became known as "Fenton's Grocery Store". Pritzker Park remained unoccupied until 1886 when its purchase by George Pullen led to the construction of nearby Central High School which served students from Alsip through Kane County until 1959 when that school closed because of budget cuts within the local government. After Central High School closed, students relocated eastward into Douglas Township where they continued attending Central High School until 1984 when that school merged with Normal schools altoids (now Mundelein College) making AlsIP one large high school campus/ community. A new library building was constructed on what is now Elm Street between 1965 and 1969 as part of a larger educational project sponsored by Pullen called The Prairie Schools Project which aimed to improve education opportunities for Black residents throughout Cook County . A football stadium also became available on this site due to engineering design work done by architect Harry Kirchhoff & Sons Incorporated during 1966-1967 funded under President Lyndon Johnson’S America’s Great Society program . The new stadium consisted of two fields side-by-side with grandstand across the street . This facility would serve as home field for both Northern Illinois University Men’s Soccer Club (No Longer an Active Team) and then Southern Illinois University Carbondale men’s soccer team (. Both Teams moved To UIUC Carbondale Stadium Now.) From 1971 through 1984 there also existed an ice rink located behind Foster Auditorium off Wabash Avenue
