The history of the Algonquin Navy is long and diverse. The navy was founded in 1834 by Captain James Cook when he sailed from England on his first voyage to explore the new world. The navy has played an important role in the development of Illinois, and has been responsible for many of its current residents. One of the earliest naval engagements fought by the Algonquin Navy was in 1835 when they joined forces with other English ships to fight against a French squadron off the coast of Illinois. This battle helped solidify our relationship with France and also demonstrated our maritime power. Over time, naval engagements became more frequent and significant, helping us protect our coastline and bolster our economy. In 1865, Captain John A. McClernand commanded a group of warships that participated in Operation Crossroads which aimed to stop Confederate reinforcements from reaching Fort Sumter in South Carolina. This engagement helped solidify America’s commitment to peace while demonstrating our military might. Algonquin is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Algonquin was founded in 1811 as a trading post on the Great Lakes by French fur traders and their Indian allies. The name "Algonquin" likely derives from an Algonquian word meaning "the great country." In 1818, the village was renamed for General David Dixon after his victory over Major John Elliot at Battle of Princeton. The first black settler in Algonquin was Obadiah Morse who arrived in 1847. He built a cabin on the banks of the Sangamon River and named it Morse Place after his father-in-law, Moses Morse. Blacksmiths John Brown and Isaac Dowling opened businesses around this time. Blacksmithing became an important industry in Algonquin because of its access to iron ore found near Mount Prospect and other mines north of Chicago. By 1850, there were more than 125 blacksmith shops in Illinois; Algonquin had the third largest numberafter Detroit and Springfield In 1861, during the American Civil War, General George McClellan's army invaded Minnesota and encountered fierce resistance from Native Americans led by Chief Big Stone Teton III.. An all out battle ensued which lasted three days before McClellan's forces retreated back into Illinois with only about fifty men remaining unharmed This event is sometimes considered to be one of America's bloodiest battles ever fought

In 1976,USS Yorktown (CVN-69) became one of only six warships in history to be gifted with a full air wing when she was given to Naval Air Station Corpus Christi AB Texas as a gift for their support of Operation Neptune’s Spear XVIII Fleet Exercise conducted off Cuban coast between March 21st-27th 1977. She remains at NAS Corpus Christi today operating with Raytheon Tactical Aircraft Systems Squadron Three (TAF-3). Algonquin is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Algonquin is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first European settlers in this area were French colonists who arrived in 1763 and named it Inlet after their native Huron village of Algonquin on Lake Michigan. Jesuit missionaries founded a mission here in 1776 and called it Notre Dame de la Salle because they felt that the Saint- Denis Abbey on the other side of the river held spiritual power for them. The original school building still stands and is used as a museum today. In 1814 by order of General James K. Polk, Algonquin was made a small township within Cook County under the jurisdiction of what is now Wabash Township. It was organized as a city in 1837 but its growth waned until it regained its status as an unincorporated community in 1907 when it became part of Chicago along with all of Cook County except Rockford and Steubenville which became municipalities separate from Chicago during Mayor Richard M. Daley's administration (1959-1964). 2 million people living near downtown Chicago experienced ComEd services on their private rooftops or through public address systems starting on October 15th 1978
In 1814, the United States acquired Algonquin from the French. The area was then part of the Indiana Territory. In 1825, Algonquin became a full-fledged county in Illinois.
