Military gift history in Algonquin, Illinois begins with the early days of warfare. In 1815, General Hull established the first military post in what is now Algonquin Township,Illinois. The post was called Fort Hurlbut and was located on the west bank of the Kankakee River. The fort served as a garrison for settlers and their livestock during the 1820s and 1830s. In 1838, General Blackford moved his army from Springfield to Algonquin Township to protect settlers from Indian raids. During the 1840s and 1850s, military gifts were exchanged between members of governments including France, Great Britain, Mexico City and Chicago. Gifts included cannons, rifles and other weapons. In 1855-1856, General David Beatty built a small fort at Red Rock Gully on the east side of Kankakee River in what is now Algonquin Township. The fort served as a base of operations for Indian attacks during the early stages of this century. In 1861-1862, General George Armstrong set up an artillery battery at Red Rock Gully in order to guard against possible Creek War Attacks on Illinois forces stationed along the Missouri River. A new era began when America's Civil War began in 1861-1865. From 1865 until its conclusion in 1865, Grant’s Union Army occupied much of Illinois without allowing for any civilian gifting beyond supplies and ammunition to support soldiers manning various positions throughout our state. After Lincoln’s assassination in 1865 two years later all ties between American Military posts (Fort Hurlbut & Red Rock Gully) ended effective 1/1/1867 when US Forces left Illinois forever due to political changes within our country following The Civil War which opened up many opportunities for purchase by new owners making available these property holdings once again under civilian control thereby returning these properties back into military hands once again!

The Algonquin Military Museum and Library is a museum and library located in the town of Algonquin, Illinois. It was established in 1901 as the Army and Navy Museum. The museum has exhibits on military history from pre-Columbian America through World War II. It also has a collection of artifacts from the town's military installations. The library was established in 1907 as the Army and Navy Library. It is open to the public Wednesdays through Saturdays 9:00am to 4:00pm, and Sundays 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
Algonquin is a small town located in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,814 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Algonquin was founded in 1833 by John Addison and his wife Sarah Shriver. The Addisons were English immigrants who had come to America prior to the American Revolution. They erected a log cabin on the banks of the Monee River in what is now Algonquin Township. The first post office at Algonquin was established on November 12, 1834, by order of Governor John Kinzie. That same year, the village proper was organized under charter from the State of Illinois. On December 1st, 1835, Algonquin became a city with independent governance and rights under Article I § 8 of the charter granted to it by then-Governor Peoria Pemberton. In 1840, Anna Thornton moved from Decatur to move into what is now downtown Algonquin and began developing land around her home for development as a Village Center which would include retail shops as well as social clubs and other public uses such as an Opera House (now demolished). By 1865 she had purchased all present day buildings within what are today Park Plaza Shopping Center east of I-90 and west of Lake Shore Drive for $1 million dollars plus interest! She named her new Village Centre after herself – Anna Thornton Place – making it one of North America’s earliest self-governing villages! On October 5th 1886 Mayor Edward J Duffy announced that "Algonquian" will be replaces by "Hudson" during ceremonies marking completion of street improvements which will run adjacent to Presentation Hall between Second Avenue and Randolph Street." This change reflected popular sentiment among some residents that they No longer wanted their community called "Algonquian". Hudson's name would continue to be used until finally being dropped completely in 1929 when Hudnut Road became obsolete due to changes in routing within DuPage County; however this name still appears on various maps dating back to those days! Alden Hodge served as mayor from 1916 until his death in 1927 while also serving as vice president for public works for Cook County government through 1926; he remains one of only two men ever elected mayor of Chicago without Political experience or service in any other capacity (the other being George Segal). He also founded Northwestern Illinois College (now Northwestern University) just north of town along Randolph Street in 1922

Algonquin is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,959 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Algonquin began as a post station on the Chicago and Northwestern Railway in 1854. The name "Algonquin" comes from an Iroquois word meaning "the place where they hunt." The first white settlers in what is now Algonquin were George Watt and his brother-in-law Andrew Gregg. In 1857, the Watt brothers founded a small village called Arlington on the east side of the Chicago River adjacent to Algonquin Creek. They named it after their home country, Scotland (Arlington). Arlington soon became one of the most important villages in Cook County because its location made it easy for wagon trains to reachChicago from all over Illinois and Indiana. In 1861, Jameson Mott opened a sawmill on present day Main Street in Algonquin. This milling operation became very successful and led to development of other businesses within the community such as grocery stores, flour mills, peanut butter plants and meatpacking plants; these businesses remain today with major operations located in or near downtown Algonquin. During World War I (1914-18), many men from Algonquin enlisted in military service and some are still buried there including Harold Weisenthal who died after being wounded at Argonne Forest during World War I; Myron Herrick who fought with distinction throughout World War II; John Rooney who was killed during combat against Japanese forces while serving with American forces during World War II; Donald Green who volunteered for service in Korea and also remains unidentified today; ARMY OFFICERS KIA OF THE UNITED STATES WWII - List compiled by Rick Heuer
