They built a log cabin on the edge of what is now town square. Rexburg grew slowly until 1907 when construction began on the new schoolhouse and post office which became one of Idaho's largest city halls. Rexburg residents attended classes rain or shine until 1942 when they were consolidated with neighboring Jerome to form one municipality. Rexburg experienced some growth during World War II as military families moved into the area to work in munitions factories or other war-related industries. In 1957, Rexburg incorporation became official when Mayor Clyde Wessels pronounced it "Rexburgh." In recent years, there has been significant redevelopment taking place around town square and elsewhere within the limits of town: There are also several restaurants and local businesses located in and around town square which continue to serve up traditional Idaho cuisine even as technology advances (e.g., local microbrewery). In addition, Rexsburg has partnered with nearby community colleges to offer various educational opportunities including temporary job training through their apprenticeship program for talented high school students interested in pursuing careers in business or another field after graduation; this unique program has helped contribute to overall growth since its inception in 2009.

Rexburg is an unincorporated community in Idaho County, located in the southwestern corner of the state. Rexburg was founded in 1892, and became a town in 1907. Rexburg is located on Idaho Highway 12 about 8 miles (13 km) east of the small town of Mingo and 3 miles (5 km) south-southwest of the larger city of Boise. The town straddles both banks of Snake River, which forms its eastern border. It lies near Nampa, across from which it shares a Bridge Street crossing with Mingo. The first settlers to Rexburg were John Teller and his brother Levi Teller who arrived in 1892. In 1907, the town was renamed for General George Washington Reynolds, who had served as Chief Engineer for the army during World War I and later served as Director of Public Works forIdaho Territory. Reynolds donated land to create Rexburg and named it after himself. In 1930, Rexsburg celebrated its centennial with a series of events including an exhibition at Boise's Forester Library called "A Hundred Years Ago: A History ofRexburgh." Other celebrations occurred throughout that year such as a Fourth Of July parade through downtown followed by a cookout at one of Rexburgh's many parks.

During the late 1960s and 1970s, Rexburg became known for its success in developing high-tech industries. In recent years, Rexburg has experienced significant growth as a result of its role as the capital of Idaho's 3rd congressional district.
