The Navy has been a part of Rexburg's history for many years. The city was founded in 1907 by the Boise Railroad and the Navy Yard was built in 1912 to serve as the city's first military installation. The Naval Air Station, which is now known as Offutt AFB, was opened in 1941 and served as the primary airbase for naval operations in Idaho and Western Oregon. In 1969, the Navy decommissioned its main base in Boise and moved its activities to Offutt AFB. Today, the Naval Air Station (NAVY) provides services to both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters with a mission that includes deterrence of aggression at sea, hunting pirates off the coast of Japan, combat search-and-rescue missions during earthquakes or other disasters, maritime security patrols throughout the Pacific Ocean, and provider of humanitarian assistance. The navy gift history begins with Admiral George Dewey's visit to Rexburg on December 6th 1885. Dewey visited to inspect construction projects being undertaken by local businessmen at what would later become Offutt AFB. His remarks about how America could be successful through technology caught the attention of local officials who quickly began soliciting donations from business owners in order to build an airstrip and dock for ships using donated materials from businesses within townspeople had given rise to what would become known as "Dewey Day." Many days after Dewey's visit, General John Custer arrived in town on horseback looking for supplies he needed for his upcoming march into Montana Territory led by Sacagawea - an event that would lead ultimately to Custer's death at Little Big Horn on July 6th 1876. On July 11th 1886 Mayor Harry Wacher announced that shipyards located within town had agreed to donate lumber needed for new warships being constructed at NAVY Yard but only if Wacher could convince Governor Jens Jensen that Rexburg should also be included within this proposal since it would provide employment opportunities for citizens during this difficult time period following prohibition within much of Idaho Territory. This proclamation became known as "Wacher 4" because four local shipyards contributed lumber totaling $4,500 each - more than any other individual entity within town limits during this era! With growth coming increasingly hard due to prohibition efforts throughout much of Northwest Territories including IDAHO TOWNSHIP & RAPIDS COUNTY (LIMITED PARTICIPATION), donations from citizens continued unabated which helped support numerous NAVY YARD construction projects completed between 1889-1915 such as USS PORTLAND (APDL) (1889), USS NEW YORK (BG 1) (1890), USS SACAGAWEA(PF 3) (1891), USS MISSIONARYISM(CVA 2) (1892), USS CONSTABLE(CG 10) (1893), USS GORDON FULTON(DDG 12)(1900s). As navys grew larger such as UCLASS TARGETS ENTERPRISES COOPERATIVE LTD., LPHI CORPORATE LIMITED., MCGUIRE SHIPPING COMPANY LIMITED., BARCLAYS PACKARD PHOTOSHOP COOPERATIVE LTD., HALDEMAN CHEMICAL COMPANY INCorporated.(1910s-1920s).

Rexburg, Idaho was founded in 1907 by Norwegian immigrants. The town is located in the Snake River Valley, about 35 miles west of Boise and 25 miles east of Rexburg. At its peak, Rexburg had a population of 6,000 people. It has since declined to fewer than 1,000 people. The first settlers in the area were farmers and their families who arrived from Norway in 1907. They built homes on hilly ground that is still visible today. The first store was built on Main Street and it operated for several years before being bought by Wm. Sargent and his son-in-law Harry Bowerson in 1912. In 1914, the Bowersons donated land to the town for a school and they named it after them (Bryce School). Rexburg began to grow rapidly during World War I because of military personnel stationed there and the production of munitions at nearby Fort Douglas Ammunition Plant. After the war ended, many soldiers returned home and started businesses such as undertakers, grocery stores, lumberyards etcetera. In 1923, Rexbergs incorporated as a Town under Idaho’s “Statutory Act No 2” which granted local autonomy within the state government when creating townships or villages within an existing county or municipality
