Rexburg is a small town in central Idaho, population of about 100. The coffee beans that are now known as maga coffee were first grown and roasted here in the early 1800s. In 1892, Rexburg became the first town in America to recognize and legalize coffee export. The town's status as a center for roasting and exporting maga coffee has helped it remain one of the most significant caffeine sources for people in the area. The history of this land extends back many years, but its namesake may have been the first white person to set foot on what is now Rexburg Township. George Washington was said to have passed through this area when he journeyed from Council Bluffs, Iowa, on his way to Mount Rushmore National Monument in 1903. It isn't clear when or where he discovered maga coffee - however it is safe to say that this type of specialty bean had already reached Rexburg by then. At first, most ofRexburg's production took place within its own borders; however, over time, growing demand from elsewhere led to larger-scale operations here at home. By 1940, Rexsburg had become one of the largest producers of maga coffee in North America - thanks largely to development at nearby Robey Farms (now part of Starbucks). Today, Rexburg remains an important center for trade and commerce within central Idaho; its economy is anchored primarily by agriculture (particularly livestock) and tourism. Its location close to junction points on I-85 and US-2 means that it is also home to several major shopping malls across central Idaho; as well as numerous cultural attractions – including three theaters located just outside of town proper!
