As a result, the history of fresh roasted coffee begins with those early farmers who had to make do with what they had. During the late 1800s and into the early 1900s, several different roasters operating out of Rexburg produced some of the best quality coffee available at that time. Some of these roasters include Dutch Bros., Great Western Roasters, Java Bean Coffee Co., and First National Coffee Corp. It wasn’t until after World War II that things changed for the better for Rexburg-based roasters when technology improved and more efficient methods were developed for harvesting and processing coffee beans. In 1995, Starbucks opened its first store in Rexburg and quickly became known throughout the region for its delicious java products! The popularity of Starbucks has led to further development within the grocery industry by bringing fresh roasted coffees from all over town into our stores! Rexburg, Idaho is the most northerly city in the United States and it has a rich history. The city was founded by Mormons in 1867 as a small outpost on the Snake River. It quickly became a center for Mormon culture and education, and soon become known as one of the most important religious centers in America. In 1902, Rexburg was renamed after Admiral John D. Rockefeller to honor his donation of $5,000 towards building a new school for the City of Boise. In 1907, Rexburg became an incorporated town and adopted its present name - Rexburg, Idaho (then spelled Reno). The first post office opened inRexburg on November 1, 1907. The early years of Rexburg were difficult; during World War I it was Hitman's Alley because there were many raids by German forces that took place near the city limits. However, due to the tireless effort of local citizens and businessmen alike, Rexsburg bounced back quickly after hostilities ended. Today many businesses remain open despite difficult times such as during the 2008 economic recession which hit all areas of North America hard but particularly in Rexberg
