His successor will be announced soon! As part of his retirement announcement, Petraeus also handed over control of both American Forces Europe (AFE) and American Central Command (CENTCOM). This means that Air Force pilots will now have direct access to CENTCOM operations from anywhere in the world!

The Nampa Air National Guard's 1st Squadron, 121st Fighter Wing is the largest and most recent air force unit in the Boise area. The 1-121 FW was activated on 8 Dec 1959 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. It moved to its current location in Nampa on 15 Jul 1996. From 9 Nov 1998 until its disbandment on 30 Jun 2001, the wing flew combat missions from Incirlik Air Base Turkey. On 21 Sep 2002, the 1-121 FW engaged Al Qaeda terrorists when they attacked a U.S military base in Afghanistan; this was the first time an USAF fighter squadron had flown combat missions against foreign enemies since World War II. On 10 Oct 2004, ground forces successfully launched an assault on Osama bin Laden's hideout inside Abbottabad Airport while flying over Pakistan; this was also the first time US combat aircraft have subsequently been used to take down a terrorist leader since Operation Desert Storm 20 years earlier. In May 2006, elements of the wing took part in a NATO exercise called " Saber Strike" which simulated an attack by insurgents using small drones operating from undisclosed locations across Afghanistan and neighboring countries. In late 2007 and early 2008, elements of the 1-121 FW participated in multiple operations throughout southeast Asia in support of Operation Enduring Freedom - including attacking targets within Burma that were believed to be associated with Chinese intelligence services; conducting airstrikes against Taliban positions near Kunduz Province in western Afghanistan; and providing air cover for U.S.-led Operation Neptune Spear airstrikes against al Qaeda militants targetting major Afghan cities such as Kabul and Kandahar). These deployments helped broaden United States air support Operations Southern Watch into a region spanning extensive airspace extending from South Korea to southern Thailand as well as parts of Central Asia and Southwest Africa

Started as a unit of Second World War RAF pilots who defected to America to fight for Japan, this unit flew Mustangs from China into Japan during World War II. After the war ended, many USAF pilots turned their skills against Germany in Operation Overlord which resulted in significant losses for Nazi Germany
