The group of men compiled a map of the area which they used as their guide to find new land for settlement. When they arrived at what is now Meridian, they named the spot after Lord John Mandeville who had helped them find the land. The name stuck and it remains one of the most commonly used names for the town today. Meridian quickly became an important stop on route trips across central Idaho. In 1916, US Route 95 was completed and meridian became part of the highway system. This made it easier for people to get around and allowed businesses to grow up near the town center. The arrival of automobiles in Meridian made nightlife more viable than it had been before. Since there were no other options for tourists to visit during daylight hours, businesses started opening up late into the night to serve customers who wanted something special to do while away from home. This led to some classic scene moments such as when someone walks by on Meridian Boulevard with their headlights off and you can see them jokingly saying "meridian Come On Over" because no one else was going to show up during that time period! A few years later, Meridian hosted its first summer festival which attracted many people from throughout central Idaho! It was also during this time that President Harry S Truman visited Meridian while on his way back from Moscow Russia! He enjoyed exploring all aspects of this small town and came away impressed by its culture and history! In 1959, Meridian added an observation tower onto its hilltop campus so everyone could have a better view of the surrounding areas! This addition made it possible for residents to watch events happening down below without having TO leave their houses! In 2002, Hurricane Karl hit Boise County hard making infrastructure damage widespread throughout both towns along US 95 corridor- including parts of Meridian-. As a result of this devastating event, much effort went into rebuilding both towns following efforts by local organizations such as Volunteers With Purpose (VWP). Despite some setbacksegregious mistakes made during redevelopment processes-both communities have bounced back relatively well since then thanks largely to support from friends/family/the general public.-Meridian's comeback story provides another great example about how perseverance pays off when things get tough
