The author reports that “a certain Captain Kapp has opened a small store at 7th and Indian streets which furnishes an excellent cup of strong coffee. His coffee is not only good but alsofairly priced.” In 1916, the Lewiston Coffee Company was started by Captains James E. Hinton and John J. Bednarik. The company made two types of coffee: black and white beans. Black beans were ground stronger than regular beans so they would be more like cocaine and less caffeine-like. White beans were ground for a more delicate flavor, similar to Turkish tea. In 1922, Captains Harry Sievers and Clarence Aiken bought theLewiston Coffee Company from Captains Hinton and Bednarik. They renamed it the Lewiston Coffee Corporation and continued to produce two types of coffee: black and white beans variations as well as Colombian roasts (which are medium-dark). Clarence Aiken passed away in 1951, but his son Harry Sievers continued running the business until he died in 1984. In 1992, Captain Harry Sievers' grandson Michael Siever took over the business after his father's death. Today, Michael Siever runs the business with his father's guidance as well as his own experience gained from running other businesses in the past
