There is no one definitive account of the history of gourmet coffee in Lewiston, Idaho. However, there are a few key moments that have shaped the town’s love for this beverage. In 1880, Lewiston was founded as a small farming community by business owners John and Anna Fisher. The couple began growing coffee beans in their garden and selling them to local farmers. The café closed its doors on September 15th of that year due to financial difficulties; however, it reopened two weeks later under new ownership with new management (including future Mayor Donnie Hyde). The Post Office Café & Grill would remain open until it closed its doors again in 1984 after suffering heavy damage during an earthquake. In 1978, Gourmet Coffee Company opened up shop #1 at 501 W 7th Street in Lewiston; it would become one of the most popular gourmet coffee shops in America thanks to its innovative roast methods and delicious espresso drinks!
