The Hayden Police Department was founded on December 14, 1902. The first officer to be hired by the department was W.H. Stephenson. A total of 21 officers and three dogs were hired over the next few years. The department moved from its original location in an old mill to a new building on the corner of Third and Main Streets in 1912. The department’s first chief was Homer Ladd who served until 1917 when he was replaced by A.M. French. In 1924, the Hayden Police Department joined forces with the Boise Police Department and became one unit. The first female officer, Mrs. Florence Sibley, joined the Hayden Police Department in 1928 after being offered a job with the Boise Police Department as a traffic enforcement Officer). In 1951, Dr. Burt Kappler was appointed Chief of Police and soon created many changes within the department including giving all officers radios which made it possible for them to communicate with other departments across Idaho as well as remote locations such as Arizona and Nevada (later becoming West Virginia). After serving for two years, Kappler resigned in 1955 due to health concerns but returned to serve four more years before leaving office again due to health concerns in 1959 (he later died at age 94). During his time as Chief of police, Kappler also developed new policies that have helped shaped modern policing practices within Idaho including using computersized evidence gathering technology which has now become standard throughout most law enforcement agencies across America) After Kappler’s retirement, Lt.-Gov Don Hodges appointed Sgt.-At-Large Harry Jablonski as acting Chief ofPolice on October 1st 1961 effective immediately upon Hodges’ assumption of office following John Fitch’s resignation effective September 15th Jablonski served until May 5th 1965 when he announced his candidacy for Mayor of Hayden (he ultimately lost) He would later serve as Deputy Sheriff from 1967-1970 under then Sheriff Donny Hagedorn When Hagedorn left office to become Mayor again in 1971 Jablonski took over as Acting Sheriff until January 7th 1976 when Russell Begay took over He would eventually becomeMayor from 1976-1979 . during his tenure crime rates decreased while revenue increased

Hayden, Idaho is a small town in the Sawtooth National Forest located in central Idaho. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. Hayden is part of the Elko, NV Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Hayden was Jedediah Smith in 1858. He and his family were the last people to live on the east side of what is now Hayden Creek before it became a national forest. Today's town was founded in 1907 by Hiram Sibley and his son-in-law Jerald Latham as an agricultural center for eastern Sawtooth National Forest. Hayden has been through many changes over its history, including being seat of government for all of Izaak Walton County from 1915 until 1960 when it merged with Ruben Coulee City to form Elko County. In 2002, Hayden voted to become a full city after years of efforts by residents and officials alike. In recent years, there has been attention paid to Hayden's rich history and culture which includes residential areas that are designated as historic districts or historic communities. One such district is HayDEN Heritage District which preserves 5 blocks of downtown Hayden between 4th Street NW and 7th Street NW between State Routes 2A (the old route US 20) and 2B (the new route SR 3). This area includes some of the earliest built homes in Hayden Township, dating back to 1881 when settlers started moving into what is now downtown Hayden from Eastern Idaho Territory. Another focus on historical preservation recently occurred around nearby Hells Canyon Dam where nearly all original ranching operations stopped during World War II because there weren't any available land elsewhere for them to operate on In addition to this focus on local history, tourist attractions also abound within walking distance of downtown Hayden including both hayden creek trout fishing spots along State Route 3 just south of town limits as well as other popular destinations such as one mile north along SR 2A called Cottonwood Canyon Park which offers hiking/biking trails traversing several ridges above canyon floor coverings significant for deer populations at different times during year; access via dirt roads leading downriver into canyon floors; three miles northeast along US 20 just outside town limits offer access to BLM land adjacent to remote lakes known collectively as The Hole
