The navy deployed gift history in Garden City, Idaho began with the USS Boise (AO-10) on July 29, 1944. The ship was delivered to the city on October 1, 1944 and became the centerpiece of the Garden City Naval Militia detachment. The Boise served as a barracks for the militia's enlisted men and women, providing them with lodging and food while they were away from home. On November 2, 1945, the USS Boise sailed into Pearl Harbor for her first deployment as part of World War II amphibious warfare operations against Japan. She arrived at Kaneohe Bay on November 9th and disembarked her troops. The next day she transported Marine Corps Reconnaissance Squadron Vixen personnel ashore to take aerial photos of Japanese positions. That night she escorted LCI(L)-515 back to Kaneohe Bay after photographing key targets on Wana Island in the process. On December 7th, 1945, HMS Illustrious anchored off shore at Kailua-Kona when it became clear that Japan had surrendered. Admiral Kimmel ordered all American warships in Hawaiian waters to enter port and discharge their Marines. USS Boise was among those vessels which discharged her soldiers that evening; she took aboard more than 350 marines who had been quartered ashore at Kailua-Kona since December 6th. The USS Boise also became a popular tourist destination during her wartime deployments; many citizens took advantage of her accommodation and dinner services while living or visiting nearby Pearl Harbor. On one such occasion in 1946, Mayor Harry Sorensen presented Admiral Kimmel with a gift certificate for fifty dollars worth of dinner services from theUSS Boise . After World War II ended there were few opportunities for military ships to stay in Hawaii; therefore, on January 15th 1947 USS Boise departed Honolulu for Yokosuka where she would be stored until being used again during Operation Magic Carpet which transferred Korean refugees across oceans into United States custody.. During this time she received new paint job including an American flag treatment and was christened “Pioneer” by then Rear Adm John Richardson relieved by Rear Adm William Halsey Jr., commander Seventh Fleet establishment upon his arrival February 3rd 1947 aboard MV Sunbeam (CVA-14). She continued serving as an Auxiliary cargo ship until May 14th when she reached Ulithi Atoll where USMC forces carrying out Operation Crossroads landed on September 25th using Royal Australian Navy destroyer HMAS Perth (DANR 314) as flagship

Thomas during the Mexican-American War and later served as an American warship in the Pacific Theater. In 1898, she served as flagship of Admiral Dewey during his successful siege of Manila Bay and helped bring about Spanish withdrawal from the Philippines. She sank three Spanish ships in this campaign and was also involved in Battle of Santiago (February 1898). On July 21st, 1901, Constitution sailed from Hampton Roads for her final voyage to Yokohama, Japan where she decommissioned on October 16th. On September 15th 1922, Constitution arrived at Pearl Harbor after being converted into a Naval Air Station (NAFTS) aircraft carrier and became headquarters for Hawaiian Air Group 3 which had been activated there earlier that year.
Garden City, Idaho is a city in the U.S. state of Idaho. The population was 7,191 at the 2010 census. Garden City is located on the Snake River Plain and is bordered by Price County to the east, Cache Valley to the north, and Nampa to the west. It lies within central Clearwater County and has a total area of 33 square miles (84 km²). The first person to reside in Garden City was John Day in 1865. The first post office opened in 1870, and Garden City became a town on November 3, 1887. The name changed to Garden City on December 15, 1912. Garden City is one of only two cities in Idaho with a professional team (the other being Pocatello) that does not play football or basketball; the other sport represented is baseball which is played at nearby Coeur d'Alene High School (capacity: 21,500)). Although there are no professional teams for any sport outside of baseball or basketball (or even ice hockey for that matter), GardenCity's community spirit makes it something of an unofficial "city league." There have been several attempts over time to form a professional soccer team but all have failed due lack of interest from residents/clubs interested in playing in what would be their home country's second largest city after Tokyo Japan.
