The Garden City, Idaho Coast Guard has been providing service to the community since 1861. The Coast Guard was originally organized as a militia organization and served in various capacities until 1883 when it was reorganized as the Revenue Cutter Service. In 1933 the Coast Guard absorbed the United States Life Saving Service which had been operating in Harborview, Washington since 1912. In 1934, Garden City became one of first communities in the United States to receive a coast guard station. The station was known as "Garden City Station" and remained in use until 1951 when it was replaced by "Hollywood Station". The Hollywood Station served as the primary headquarters for The Coast Guard from 1951 through 1978. During this time, Headquarters moved from Garden City to Seattle and then back again to Garden City before finally being relocated permanently to Hollywood on May 1, 1979. It is currently unknown where Headquarters will be relocated next but it is likely that they will remain located near Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California. There have been several changes to coastal guard gift history over time including: - In 1961, The Coast Guard established its first museum which housed artifacts related to maritime safety and security. This museum continues today as part of Headquarters’ permanent collection. - In 1984, Congress designated Christmas Day as National Coastal Defense Day which led to special celebrations around the country including lessons on coastal defense at schools and events such as boat races across Lake Michigan on December 25th. - In 1987, The Coast Guard began developing a new crest which would represent their unique style of service while also honoring their predecessors who had preceded them along with other members of the community who have contributed importantly to American coastal security over the years. On July 29th of that year, Congress approved an updated crest which included a blue shark swimming within a white anchor field with an olive branch superimposed above it all together forming a triangle shape within whitespace - this design remains active today and is used whenever someone messages or signs aboard USCGC San Francisco (PGL-8) using either their name or agency mark(s).

Garden City, Idaho is a city in Grant County, Idaho, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Garden City is located on the Snake River at the confluence of the Clearwater and Salmon Rivers. It is part of the Boise metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1902 by John A. Garden and his brother-in-law James Henson as a small community on land donated by George Waddell and others in that year. In 1905, Garden City became one of five cities in eastern Grant County when it was organized from portions of Rexburg and Nampa. In 1920, Garden City incorporated as a city under state law No. 7674; its name has been changed only once since then (to avoid confusion with neighboring Boise). Garden City experienced economic growth beginning in the late 1980s when oil production increased along the Snake River region adjacent to its boundaries; this led to an increase in development around town including several high-rise hotels and condos developments dating back to the early 1990s. However, recent years have seen some slowdown or reversal of these trends; for example, membership in local Chamber of Commerce has decreased while real estate prices have increased significantly within walking distance of downtown areas where jobs are available close to public transportation connections into Boise or other major metropolitan areas

From its inception in 1790, the Coast Guard has been a fighting force committed to keeping our Nation’s coasts safe. The Coast Guard is today one of America’s most important institutions, with an obligation to provide law enforcement, maritime security and emergency response services on every coastline. In 1915, the Coast Guard was reorganized as the United States Coast Guard Reserve, which providesemergency response services to all U.S. ports and coastal communities. In 1923, the name was changed back to the United States Coast Guard when it became part of thenew interior secretary’s bureau charged with protecting public safety on America’s coasts. In 1969, service members who had served in World War II were called up for duty in Vietnam; this led to another name change – the United States Marine Corps Reserve – which remains in effect today. Today, the Coast Guardsmen deployed around the world support more than 2 million civilian users while contributing hundreds of millions of dollars each year to prevent collisions at sea and help those affected by disasters like Hurricanes Katrina or Sandy. The Service also features many unique programs that keep our citizens safe such as hunting for pirates off coast and conducting search-and-rescue missions during winter storms like Irene or Sandy

Garden City is a small town in the Snake River Valley of Idaho, located about 135 miles (217 km) northeast of Boise. At the time of its incorporation as a city on March 16, 1902, Garden City had a population of only 100 people. The growth of the city was slow and steady until World War II when it exploded with growth due to military spending and other boom times in the region. Garden City has since experienced significant gentrification and redevelopment, most notably in the late 2000s through developments such as The Village at Garden City and Westside Place. The first permanent settler in what is now Garden City was James Fenton who arrived there on January 14, 1877. He came with his family from Muskegon County, Michigan. In 1880 he started a cotton gin business near present-day Lewiston. By 1887 he had built a sawmill and grist mill at what is now south side of Main Street. He also constructed two log homes which are still standing today along Main Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue. During the early years following ratification of the United States Constitution by Congress on July 4, 1788, many easterners moved into this area because land was cheap and available for settlement east of the Great Lakes. Many pioneers were recruited from New York State via boatloads crossing Lake Erie each week during winter months before sailing downriver to reach Harrisonburg (now Harrisonburg) on Virginia's Potomac River before continuing their journey across America by way of Erie Canal to reach western Pennsylvania Territory where they initialed land certificates - some arriving as early as 1790! One such pioneer family was that of John Nicholson who settled in what is now northeast corner lot just north of Third Street between Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue in 1800; his son James Nicholson also became an early settler hereabouts! James Nicholson’s brother-in-law Andrew Jackson also arrived soon thereafter from RIIAH – Rhode Island! These initial settlers were followed by others over time including: Timothy Higginson (1799), Nicholas Bemis (1802), Joseph Story(1805), Joshua McGee (1807), Solomon Baldwin(1809), Elijah Whitehead(1811). Eventually 600 families lived here permanently or temporarily during those earliest days! On October 1st, 1892 Garden City incorporated under state law number 8246 having a population then consisting mostly single men age 25+. For almost 60 years prior thereto it had been unincorporated territory administered by local justices with no governing body save special meetings called “Councils” held annually at different locations throughout summertime related primarily to Agricultural concerns & dairying/livestock grazing etc… Townspeople met indoors or outdoors when weather permitted either open air debates taking place after sunset or private deliberations took place inside [upon] adjournment thereby giving rise to various nicknames such as “The Gathered Group”…. During World War I & II large numbers residents served actively in war services including WACs (& Women Army Corps) stationed locally within Boise National Guard unit & later served overseas….. After WWII many ex-servicemen & their families returned home bringing new life to our community thru various types OF housing developments…… Today we enjoy one hundred eighty five years rich heritage thru community events celebrating arts, culture, foodie attractions growing mustard plants year round[…]
The Garden City area was founded by Frederick Law Olmsted in 1875. The city was named for the garden he designed for his wife, Calista May Olmsted.
