One of the first businesses to sell coffee was La Bodega de Oro, which opened in 1907. After World War I, when American soldiers returned home and began traveling throughout Europe, they brought back some of the best beans that had been roasted there. These beans were then sold at La Bodega de Oro and other small stores before being distributed to larger grocery chains like Safeway and Kroger. The first Starbucks opened up in Seattle in 1992, followed by two more locations soon afterwards. Eagle coffee is a coffee company founded in Eagle, Idaho in1993 by owners and employees of the local processing plant. The first bag of coffee was roasted and packaged at the plant, with only small quantities sold outside of town. In 2003, the company moved its roasting operations to a larger facility in Boise. Eagle Coffee has been featured on several television shows including "The Great American Baking Show", "The Food Network's Cooks Table", and "Iron Chef America". The company also won a prestigious Award from the National Coffee Association for their Excellence in Roasting Beans or Whole Bean Coffee.
Eagle is a small town in the northwestern corner of Idaho, United States. It is located on the Snake River Plain, near its confluence with the Kootenai River. The population was 727 at the 2010 census. Eagle is part of the Boise-Athletic County, Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Eagle were American fur traders who explored the area in 1805–06 and 1807–08. In 1828 an Anglo-Saxon settler named John Davenport founded a log cabin on Beaver Creek about four miles (6 km) south of present-day Eagle. When Oregon became a U.S. state in 1848, Davenport moved his family to what is now Eagle and developed it as a small ranching community using land he had acquired from local Indians for $5 per acre ($ today). Some settlers arrived by steamboat in 1860; others walked or took wagons overland from Thedford Landing on Snake River to reach Eagle before trains did so during the 1870s and 1880s. In 1890, when Idaho became a state, eagle was chosen as its seat and adopted as its official name by Iowan Territorial Governor George Hinkle Jr.. On July 3, 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt delivered his famous "Eagle Speech" at Spokane's Civic Auditorium in which he lauded "the marvelous progress made by our people since I left them". The speech helped spur economic development within eagle and throughout much of northwest Idaho during World War II; increasing production for munitions at nearby aluminum smelters led to increased demand for goods exported overseas; and after 1945 suburban development increased commercial activity around town while residential areas continued to grow more upscale until 2000 when concerns about global warming prompted reductions in energy use statewide. Today eagle features an active business district where several high-end restaurants overlook downtown streets filled with businesses that have been there since before America entered World War II: defense contractors such as Northrop Grumman Corporation (now Lockheed Martin), Boeing Co., Raytheon Co., ATK Inc., Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co.), major banks including Wells Fargo & Company (now HSBC Holdings PLC), JBL Audio/Video Components Inc., Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors/Cache Processor GroupieXON2 LLC., MeadWestvaco Oil Refiners Incorporated/, Microsoft Corp./Lenovo Groupies/)and numerous smaller merchants along Main Street NW; two golf courses are one mile (1 km) northeast of town center while another one extends into neighboring Clearwater County.; churches include First Baptist Church of Eagle (founded 1865), Second Methodist Church of Eagle (founded 1889), Latter Day Saints Zion Chapel built 1978 on property donated by Donald Ewing Sr./John Fenton); industrial plants included Lockheed Martin's Missiles & Missile Systems Division/LGM Research Division Tool Workshift Shop 1942 added 1981 (& later closed 1984 due to bankruptcy); Arsenal National Military Park /Fort Benning Army Base - warheads being manufactured here 1953 thru 1958/. Eagle is a small town in Idaho, located on the Snake River. The name Eagle was given to the town by Arapaho Indians because they were seeing Eagles flying over the town on their way to hunt. In 1871, Eagle became a city and has been growing steadily since then. The primary industry in Eagle today is agriculture, with some Manufacturing also present. The biggest employer in the city is the local school district which employs over 900 people across all grades. There are also several small businesses in Eagle that support its economy. One of the most notable things about Eagle is its history. It was once an important military outpost during World War II and has been mentioned numerous times in popular culture such as "The West Wing". The city even hosted a mini-series called "Eagle" back in 2013.
The first white man to set foot on Eagle, Idaho was James W. Watt in 1875. Watt was an American miner and prospector who traveled up the Salmon River in search of coal and silver. He discovered a gold mine on the same day that his party arrived on Eagle, but he did not exploit it because he lacked the necessary equipment. Eagle was founded by J.D. Rockefeller in 1907 as a small town near the confluence of the Snake and Salmon Rivers. The town grew rapidly due to its location, with several mills being built to process local materials such as wood, flour, cheese and cattle. In 1916, Rockefeller sold Eagle to George Eastman for $5 million dollars. Eastman turned Eagle into a center for film production, which helped make it one of America's most important economic nodes during World War I and II. In 1949, eagle became part of the United States when it gained independence from Britain after centuries of British rule. The city continued to grow throughout the years until it reached its current size in 2010 when the population peaked at over 100,000 people
