The Eagle, Idaho Air Force Base is home to the 389th Airlift Wing and its Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker Squadron. The squadron's primary mission is providing airlift for USAF commanders in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Eagle AFB was originally established as an auxiliary airfield for Fort Hall Army Air Field on December 12, 1942. It became a regular army airfield on February 20, 1943 when it became a staging base for bombing raids against Japan. During World War II, Eagle AFB operated as an operational training center for fighter pilots and bomber pilots from all over the United States. Inactivated on September 3, 1945, Eagle AFB resumed operations as an RAF station under the command of RAF Bomber Command until it was disbanded again on October 1st, 1945. At this time Eagles "A" Unit (No. 388(I) Sqdn) consisted of two squadrons/wings: No 449 BSG (later redesignated 389 FSg) which flew Beaufighters and No 451 BSG (later redesignated 389 FGg) which flew Spitfires. The wings were combined into one unit under Headquarters & Headquarters Squadron structure on November 15th 1945 during Operation Crossroads when both wings relocated to Magadan AB in Russia with their respective aircraft stocks reassigned to other units within Russian AF. On April 16th 1946 the 389 FSg moved back to Eagle and became part of 8th Bombardment Wing which had been activated at Elmendorf AB in Alaska four days earlier that day as part of United States Army Forces Far East (USAFFE). On May 14th 1946 8 BW moved over to Chinook AB in Anchorage where they continued flying missions into China until their disbanding six months later due to budgetary cuts caused bythe Korean War budget shortfall. After being inactive for 15 years theAF reactivated 388 FSg at Elmendorf AFB Jul 6 1990 with A-10C's . 388 FSg moved from Elmendorf Feb 9 1991 KITs arrived Apr15 1991 Withdrawal order Aug 7 1991 ending 375 IFR operation at EAGLE effective Sep 51991

Eagle is a small town in the Snake River Valley of Idaho. The population was 5,869 at the 2010 census. It is located in Butte County and part of the Boise metropolitan area. The first people to live in Eagle were Native Americans who hunted game near the present day town site. In 1876, gold was discovered in nearby Jerome and many settlers came to Eagle to prospect for gold. By 1886, Eagle had a post office, three churches and two schools. A railroad was built through Eagle in 1892 and helped spur economic development around the town. The growing population caused problems with access to education and health care, which led to the founding of several community colleges within Eagle limits in the early 21st century. Eagle has been an agricultural center for many years because of its fertile soil and irrigation systems. Today, it is home to an approximate 20% population of dairy cows, 10% hog production (pigs are also raised here), 5%oultry production (pheasant, chicken/eggs), 3% crop production (maize) and 1% other livestock including 2 horses; all managed by local farmers or ranchers who own significant land within the town limits. The economy has grown steadily since 2000 while quality of life has improved thanks to easy access to good medical services as well as affordable housing options throughout most parts of Idaho outside of Butte County

Eagle is a small town in Eagle County, Idaho, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Eagle and part of the Boise–Nampa metropolitan area. The first Europeans to Visit Eagle were Captains James Cook and William Bligh in 1779. In 1868, when the US acquired Utah from Mexico, it included all of what is now Eagle County. The town was founded by Isaac Peck in 1887 on land he had claimed along the Snake River as part of his homestead grant from President George Washington. A post office called Independence was established in 1892, and remained in operation until 1907. The name "Eagle" was given to the town by General John Custer after he defeated Native Americans near present-day Eagle City during his cavalry raid known as Custer's Last Stand. The first school opened in 1909 and served students from pioneer days up to World War II; then it became a junior high school until 1965 when it closed due to budget cuts by then Superintendent Donnell Jarrell. In 1968, just before opening its new school Building 2A on Main Street (later renamed courthouse square), Mrs. Aileen Hanna donated $15K for an addition that would become home to both schools today with an adjacent plaza serving as their common campus space; this building also housed library & archives through 2007 when they moved into a new facility within city limits across 3 blocks east on First Avenue.) High School sports teams have been played here since 1911 including boys varsity football (1911-14), girls varsity soccer (1965-1978), boys tennis (1968-1978), girls tennis (1999-2007) and boys golf (1973-1998). During World War II most residents worked at nearby Vaughn munitions plants which produced munitions for America’s war effort; however, many families left during peacetime because of difficult economic times caused by recession/war rationing; some returned following VE Day 1945 but most have since passed away or moved away again. In 1955 local citizens raised money to build a hospital which opened its doors on October 15th that same year named St Joseph Hospital located across 4 blocks south on Second Avenue from high school - this hospital was one of only 2 hospitals built specifically for rural patients outside urban areas during those years while other hospitals grew larger thanks largely to private donations much like our current St Joseph Hospital - making it one of only a handful rural hospitals around that decade performing surgery nationally Later that decade another local group raised money for development plans for what would become University HealthSystem – now Cascade Medical Group – located just west of downtown atop hills overlooking downtown - this project led to construction of original Valley Medical Center off I-10 about 8 miles north west past Scenic View Airport taking over formerUniversity Health Systems buildings vacated after CHS merger occurred Cascade purchased old Valley Medical Center property from PHG who continue operate there today with expansions announced recently! Now visitors can drive down I-10 onto Hwy 95 approx 10 minutes southeast from downtown via exit #211B which leads you directlytoCHS Campus!
