The town quickly grew into atiny community of about 100 people with several businesses and two schools. The first store opened in 1882 and the first post office was established in 1886. The first doctor in Chubbuck was Dr. J.F. Smith who arrived from Oregon in 1887. A sawmill, grist mill, harness shop, blacksmith shop and agricultural market were all built before World War I when the war brought an influx of workers including many miners from Hailey Bayou County, Nevada. The population of Chubbuck peaked at 200 people during the early 1920s but declined as more residents relocated to other towns or left the state due to political changes or economic conditions within the country during those years. After World War II, however, Chubbuck began to grow again as various industries developed such as aluminum smelting and agriculture retreated towards more remote areas of Idaho while population growth continued throughout the 2000s and 2010s due mainly to migration from surrounding states led by job opportunities within Chinook Valley Regional District (CVRD) which includes much of eastern Rocky Mountains region including Boise city limits
