By 1912, most of the present town had been developed when the US Bureau of Mines leased 2,000 acres (800 hectares) to build Chinle Dam and other engineering projects that remain an important part of its history today. In 1971, Governor Neil A Kerr announced plans for a new community within sight of Chubbuck called Post Falls.
