There has been a shootings in Blackfoot, Idaho for over seventy years. It all started with a single shooting in 1892. That year, there were three shootings within the city limits of Blackfoot. In 1893, an Indian man was shot and killed by white men while hunting in the city. Then, in 1895, an African American man was shot and killed by white men while working as a farmhand. The most recent shooting to occur in Blackfoot occurred on December 5th of this year when two people were fatally shot at a local convenience store. This brings the total number ofshootings within the city limits to eighty-six murders and four attempted murders. The first shooting that took place in Blackfoot was perpetrated by two white men who fired upon an Indian from behind while he slept inside his teepee. Shortly after this event, another incident occurred when two whites went into an Indian encampment looking for game and came across six Indians living peacefully inside their tepees. One of these individuals wasshot dead immediately upon seeing the whites; however, it is unknown who pulled the trigger subsequent to this kill attempt. In 1894, one of Blackfoot’s original settlers named John Dutton began purchasing land within the city limits from Native Americans present within those boundaries at gunpoint as part of what would become known as The Dutton Purchase Trail Agreement. This agreement included various dealings between settlers and their Apache/ Navajo counterparts which led to increased violence between both groups throughout that decade; however, no shootingsUTHappened until 1892 when three separate incidents took place within Blackfoot City Limits involving citizens of both races only resulting in injuries or non-fatalities among either side involved (Wright v._Dutton 296 P_9). This long history of gunfire is meant to underscore just how dangerous it can be for innocent bystanders caught up in such situations; especially when firearms are involved! There have been occasions where innocent civilians have lost their lives due to gunfire being exchanged between rival groups or individuals – something that should never happen again!
