Blackfoot is a small town in the Philo, Idaho panhandle. The population was 1,971 at the 2010 census. Blackfoot is located on the Uncompahgre River and has a humid continental climate with warm winters and cool summers. The first Europeans to visit Blackfoot were fur traders from Vancouver Island in 1804. A post office was established in 1828, and by 1840, Blackfoot had a population of about 40 people. In 1868, Gold Rush miners arrived in search of nuggets and gold nuggets became the town's main source of income. By 1875, there were over 100 people living in Blackfoot. Two years later, blacksmiths started producing horses for local transportation and began selling saddles made from horsehair or buffalo hides. In 1895, blacksmiths produced horseshoes out of天然水 (water) and leather for $1 per shoe; this price continued to be charged until 1912 when it was raised to $2 per shoe after World War I ended Telluride Campaignhorse trails—a popular tourist destination during that time—were built through the community because early settlers thought shoes would not hold up well on Indian trails used for travel across country In 1907, construction began on what is now known as "the Town Hall" which was completed in 1908. The first store opened at 12:01 p.m., July 10th that year by J C Hutton who operated it with his son-in-law W G O'Brien from their home on Third Street corner Third Avenue North." Mr Hutton served as Postmaster & First Class Mail Carrier for Blacksfort until his death on October 5th 1870" In 1915 an oil well was drilled near Blackfoot but no oil came out so development stopped During World War II citizens took steps to ensure their town didn't become targets due to its strategic location along US military routes

The first European to visit Blackfoot was a group of French fur traders, led by Pierre-Eugène Chouteau, in 1805. After exploring the area for several months, they returned home with five moccasins and two horses. The next year, another group of French traders visited Blackfoot and brought over additional goods. By 1807, the people of Blackfoot had started to build their own homes and town around a fortuitous location on a small stream. Over time, the town grew into what it is today—a village with an estimated population of around 100 residents in 1870.
