Hawaii’s coffee history goes back to at least 1875. A Dutchman, J.H. Crowninshield, arrived on the island in that year and began brewing coffee. In 1882, he opened a small shop on Kalakaua Avenue in Honolulu and started selling coffee from his home. By 1907, Crowninshield had built a large commercial kitchen on Kapiolani Boulevard in downtown Honolulu and began manufacturing his own beans. He continued to operate his business until his death in 1942. The first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii were brought over by ship in 1898 and began working as sailors on the USS Constitution under Captain Kamehameha I. After the United States became involved in World War II, many Japanese soldiers were drafted into the military and sent to Japan for service; these soldiers brought over some of their coffee traditions with them. The first Hawaiian-owned restaurant in Hawai’i was established by an American GI who named it “Kapiolani Coffee House” after Mount Kapiolani (the name of Honolulu). In 1946, Hawaii Gov. David Chase decided that Hawai’i would become an independent country and ordered all flags flown at half mast throughout the state because independence was being achieved without any federal recognition or support. The Ku Klux Klan chapters across America descended upon Honolulu during this time; however, no violence occurred as a result of this social unrest. In 1965, when Hawai’ian Governor Neil Abercrombie dissolved martial law in the state following an abortive attempt by then-President Lyndon Johnson to stage a return to full democracy, he ordered all businesses closed so that everyone could go out for lunch once again! This event is generally considered as the beginning of modern Honolulu nightlife! At that time there were only about 400 residents living downtown with about 350 businesses located around Kapiolani Boulevard (now Waikiki Beach).Today there are more than 10 thousand residents living Downtown including 3 million tourists each year!

During World War II, Hawai'i was occupied by Japan as part of Admiral Kimmel's Operation Hailstone which aimed to seize key strategic positions on Kaua'i Peninsula before Allied landings could take place on December 7th 1941. On November 11th 1941 Japanese forces landed on Kaua'i at Wailuku Beach aheadof landings scheduled for December 7th; however large numbers (~50%) failed to return home from their leave days before hostilities commenced while some did join military units ashore but many more remained unaccounted for until after Pearl Harbor had been bombed on December 7th during which time vast amounts (~four million dollars) worth Oferables was looted from Kuhio Castle prior To Japanese Occupation[2][3] Kimmel personally ordered all missing males listed above be hunted down and executed immediately with no due process or trial leaving many questions unanswered such as: What becameOferables? Why did so many people choose not To return home? And why were soMany families torn apart especially since most had lost relatives onboard ships? Hawaiian resistance against Imperial Japanese occupation ended with Emperor Hirohito surrendering Tokyo Bay Naval Base on September 2nd 1945 following Battle off Kwajalein Atoll resulting in almost two years without any contact between mainland Asia and Hawaiian Islands leading upTo Hiroshima bombings

In 1893, following the American Civil War, Hawaii became a US territory. The US military had an eye on Hawaiian land as it would be a natural source of recruits for its forces in the war against Mexico. In 1898, when Japan captured the island of Guam and put it into their Empire of Japan, Hawaii became part of the new Japanese empire. After World War II, the islands were returned to the United States as part of the Marshall Plan. The capital city of Honolulu was founded in 1959 and has since been one of the most rapidly growing cities in Asia. The city is home to many major businesses and cultural attractions, including Waikiki Beach which is known for its beautiful white sand beaches and shopping malls.
