Small batch coffee started in Woodstock, Georgia in the early 1800s. The first small batch coffee was made by two men, John and David Jowell. They bought a small pot of coffee from a grocery store and started brewing it themselves. Coffee became popular in the area and people would go to different stores to buy their favorite beans. The popularity of small batch coffee continued until about 1915 when large scale production began. This caused the price of smallbatch coffee to decrease which made it difficult for farmers to make a living off of it. Small batch coffee continued to be produced until the early 1920s when it all disappeared from the market due to World War I.

The first coffee shop in Woodstock was opened in 1947 by a group of friends. The shop was known as the Cotton Club and served coffee, pastries and cigarettes. In 1951, the store moved to its current location at 501 E Main Street. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf chain bought the Coffee Club in 1984 and operated it until 1990 when it closed down.

In August of 1969, a group of teenagers from Woodstock, Georgia motivated by the Free Speech Movement and their own personal aspirations set out to create an outdoor music festival in nearby Watkinsville. The inaugural edition of Woodstock brought together some of the most famous and influential rock bands from across America, including The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, and Led Zeppelin. despite initial fears that the event would be canceled or used for political rallies instead of music, more than 100,000 people attended over three days. Though some aspects of the festival were chaotic and highly charged - such as when one person lit a fire at the park - overall it was one of history's most seminal moments.
On July 2, 1969, a group of college students from the University of Georgia in Athens staged the first night of rock and roll on what is now known as Woodstock. The event was attended by many famous people such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and The Stones.
