Woodstock was a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States, located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The population was 575 at the 2010 census. It is now part of Roswell. The first permanent white settler in what is now Woodstock was Captain John Thomson in 1803. He and his family founded their home on the bank of the Chattahoochee River. Thomson's brother-in-law, Nicholas Bicknell, also settled there in 1807 and built a cabin which still stands today. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson established Fort McIntosh here to garrison troops during the War of 1812. In 1830, James Wofford bought land adjacent to Fort McIntosh from French Concessionaires for $2 per acre (1/8th of a mile²). Wofford then developed it into Woodstockown Township which became your town when you were registered with the Georgia Department of State as a commonwealth on January 1st 1830. When Atlanta began its growth in the mid-19th century and railroad transportation became available throughroads like those through Fulton County became important destinations for people looking to sell land or purchase goods and services within this growing city center...the development eastward along Macon Road towards Roswell represented an increasingly attractive alternative to westward travel by wagon over country roads that had been developing since before European contact with North America had even begun! So too did Woodstock’s location make it an ideal place for agricultural production; early settlers grew maize and cotton crops while later generations expanded into other crops such as peanuts and oak apples. And so we have today one of America’s oldest towns situated on one of its most productive agricultural areas!
