The Third Georgia Infantry was an infantry regiment of the Union Army during the American Civil War. This regiment was organized in December 1861 at Woodstock, Georgia by order of General Joseph E. Johnston and mustered in on January 3, 1862. The regiment fought in the Battle of Fort Sumter and participated in the Maryland Campaign. It surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. The Third Georgia Infantry lost a total of 5 officers and 507 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded (KM).

Woodstock, Georgia is a small town located in rural Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The community began as a cattle ranch and farmstead on the edge of what is now Woodstock,Georgia. The first settlers arrived in 1820 and were Methodist missionaries who established a hospital and school in what is now Roswell. In 1829, two brothers founded the town on land they had bought from a Cherokee chief. They named it after their sister's birthplace in England, which they had visited while living there with her family during their missionary work in that country. In 1907, woodstock merged with nearby Valdosta to form one of the largest cities in the United States when it became an incorporated city under Arkansas law. In 1915-16, automobiles were first sold here; however, heavy demand from World War I caused prices to escalate rapidly (the market value of autos had already increased by 100% since 1908). Businesses such as cigar stores and grocery stores mushroomed throughout downtown Woodstock while remain open today despite prohibition issues (and occasional protests) throughout this time period around hereabouts! The late 1920s through 1930s saw much growth due to new businesses opening up including insurance companies (including AIG), banks (Bancorp/First American), car dealership / parts store chains (Chrysler Corporation / Imperial Automotive Parts), restaurants (/Aldi/PepsiCo), doctor’s offices (New York–based Drury & First Medical Center), post office (/Post Office General Store), general aviation activity with model airplanes being flown at local airports by aviator friends of owner Hap Arnold (& others). This intense growth led to some dustups between business owners about where development should take place – some wanted more shopping malls built next door but many didn't want high rises or apartment buildings built near schools; instead they chose more modest residences near commercial areas like roadsides etc….. This period also saw active effort being made by both city officials and citizens alike to clean up abandoned properties so that these places could become attractive again for people looking for housing rather than just property values increasing! Woodstock experienced its golden age during World War II with movie stars like Cary Grant visiting and performing at local theaters as well as troop deployments into combat making Woodstock one of most popular locations for entertainment during WWII! Businesses boomed thanks to war-time demand for materials such as rubber products, munitions etc…. Actor Alan Ladd even set up shop here giving Performers' Village Productions shows from his home studio out front on Main Street! However following the end of World War II things slowly died down until mostly residential use resumed only recently becoming known once again as "The Arts District" thanks largely to efforts by Mayor Dillard ??
