By 1830, several large plantations had been built and by 1840 more than seventy-five different types of coffee were being produced here. Coffee production continued until 1870 when an drought struck Europe and caused a significant decline in demand for Turkish Coffee (the mainstay of Italian caffeine habits). This led to a steep decline in villarica's coffee industry which lasted until World War II; however, recent excavations have shown that there are still extensive bean fields left over from this time period! Today, despite its lowly origins –Villagra used to be one of America's poorest counties –Villa Rica has become one of the leading coffee towns in Georgia due to its rich history and passionate people who enjoy drinking their favorite drink: espresso!

The Villa Rica Coffee Company was founded in 1892 by George H. Villa and his brother, Lorenzo. The company grew rapidly and exported its coffee to many countries throughout the world. In 1916, the Villa Rica Coffee Company became a subsidiary of the J.P. Morgan & Co., which helped it continue to grow and prosper. In 1957, the company merged with another coffee company, the Parkes Coffee Company, to form the Parkes-Villa Rica Corporation. Today, the company is still headquartered in Villa Rica and operates two plantations in Georgia: one in Watkinsville and one in Lawrence County.
Villa Rica is a small community in Hancock County, Georgia. It was founded by the Pritchett family in 1855. The community has a population of about 210 people. The first settlers were John and Elizabeth Pritchett. They built a log cabin on the north side of the river, near where Villa Rica now stands. The couple raised crops and hunted game until their death in 1869. Their son, Isaac, took over the farmstead and continued to run it until he died in 1951. His wife, Rhoda, ran it until her death in 1978. In 1901, Anna Bogue married Milton Eaves and moved to Villa Rica with him. They started a grocery store here and operated it for many years before selling it to Harry Gaston in 1959. In 1984, Gaston sold the business to Rufus Witherspoon Jr., who operated it for most of its remaining decades. In 2006, Witherspoon Jr.'s grandson Rufus Witherspoon III bought the business from his father-in-law Harry Gaston IV for $1 million dollars.. This brings Villa Rica into further Doe family ownership; as Ralph Doe III (Rufus' uncle) still lives at the property and maintains some direct control over its operations..

The first people to set foot on what is now Villa Rica were probably Creeks who may have come here in search of food or trade goods with other Indian groups. By 1795, English settlers had arrived in what is today Villa Rica and began developing it as a farming community. The early residents were farmers who grew corn, beans, squash and other crops. However, by 1800, the town was being built up around a iron works which became one of the most important businesses in the region. At this time, villas (houses) began to be built all over Villa Rica and surrounding areas due to their popularity as homes for wealthy families. In 1801-1802, General Andrew Jackson led a military expedition against Creek resistance near present day Valdosta. As part of his campaign against Native Americans, Jackson ordered Genoa Marshall to burn down all villages along the Chattahoochee River that reported hostile activity by the Creek natives. This order caused great outrage among many local citizens who saw themselves as protectors of their village against outside aggression. As a result of this action, many wealthy Georgians moved away from Villa Rica in order to avoid having their property destroyed or taken by General Jackson’s forces during his campaign Against Native Americans throughout Georgia (1802-1805). Consequently, there was little population growth at this time within Villa Rica itself; however, several new villas were constructed nearby thanks to efforts by influential civilians and politicians alike!
