Valdosta is a small city located in the southeastern United States. The population was estimated to be around 78,000 as of the 2010 census. Valdosta is the county seat of Cobb County and it is also home to the Valdosta State University. The city was founded in 1819 by John Chilton, who named it for his home town of Valdivia, Chile. Valdosta experienced significant growth during the 20th century thanks to its location on the Gulf of Mexico and its status as a shipping center. However, recent economic struggles have led to declines in population and businesses over the past few years. Today, Valdosta remains an important cultural and commercial center for Southeast Georgia.
The National Guard was activated on September 17, 1947. The Guard was originally organized as a militia squadron in the State of Texas. On September 24, 1951, the National Guard Bureau created the Guards Division which consisted of two brigades with each brigade consisting of three battalions. The first battalion to be deployed to Vietnam was Company A, 5th Infantry Brigade Combat Team 1st Infantry Division on November 8, 1965. In 1990 the 1st Brigade became part of 2nd Brigade and later 3rd Brigade before being disbanded in 2006. On July 10, 1966 President Lyndon Johnson announced that all United States military forces would be mobilized for six months without notice and all able-bodied men between 18-50 years old were required to report to their local National Guard units within 48 hours or face arrest and potential imprisonment. This mobilization led to increased tensions between Localities about how best to handle these potentially large numbers of militiamen who were not LEGALLY allowed inside their towns or cities limits! Since then there have been many efforts by both state legislatures and local organizations in order to keep the National Guard from becoming a law enforcement tool instead opting for more ceremonial purposes such as holding parades or special events only used if there are no other officially sanctioned events taking place in that community. One example is the annual Pumpkin patch parade which takes place at Halloween time throughout most states with an event usually held in late October/earlyNovember just before school lets out so that children can get a glimpse of what the Guard looks like while parents can buy some candy for their children! In recent years there has also been an effort started called "National Guardsmen for Change" which encourages members of the National guard from across America to start participating in political activism by writing letters (or even hand delivered petitions) expressing your displeasure with whatever issue is currently affecting your community!

In 1821, the area that is now Valdosta was first settled by families of Native Americans. The town’s name comes from a French word meaning “valley of the white people.” Valdosta grew rapidly in its early years as cotton plantations were established in the area. In 1832, Valdosta became the seat of government for a new county formed from parts of Georgia and Alabama. In 1845, the town was renamed Atlanta after General George B. Washington and his army attacked Fort Cobb near Savannah while he was on his way to meet Confederate General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Court House. Atlanta quickly became an important center for commerce and culture due to its location on the southern border of what was then slave-holding South America. The city prospered until around 1865 when racial tensions turned violent following the end of the American Civil War. In 1880, Valdosta became part of newly created Fulton County which also included northeast Georgia and much of Florida. By 1930, Valdosta had grown so large that it again merged with Fulton County to form Gwinnett County The economic decline in Atlanta during the 1970s and 1980s led to a decrease in population growth throughout Gwinnett County, but Valdosta experienced significant growth over this time period thanks to its many resources including oil Refineries located within walking distance of downtown, manufacturing plants along I-75 (the most important route into/out of Atlanta), and several universities which have kept nearby jobs strong since 2000
The Valdosta, Georgia area was first settled by the Creek Nation in the late 18th century. The area became a part of the United States following the admission of Georgia into the Union on December 12, 1784. Valdosta was named for General James McGillivray, who led an expedition to explore and map the region in 1802. The town was founded in 1833 by entrepreneurs John A. Macon and J.T. Sanford. Valdosta became a service center for cotton plantations in south Georgia during the 19th century. In 1893, Valdosta City developed as a commercial and industrial center with numerous businesses including banks, grocery stores, department stores, and buses that serviced local residents throughout central Georgia. In 1930, Valdosta experienced its most significant population growth when it became one of several cities along the Atlantean Coastline targeted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt for development as wartime munitions plants were established there (among other cities). After World War II ended in 1945, Valdosta's economy declined but has since recovered with various new businesses being established such as technology companies and an electronic waste management facility known as "The Waste Land".
