Coffee was first brewed in Valdosta, Georgia, in the early 1800s. The first coffee plants were established in this area by Fayetteville farmer John A. Logan in 1824. Coffee beans were grown and roasted on private property until 1840 when the first public coffee house opened in Valdosta. In 1846, the town of Valdosta became a state capital and saw an influx of residents from surrounding counties who began to purchase coffee from local roasters. The early 1900s saw an increase in the popularity of espresso drinks such as cappuccino and latte macchiato, which led to Valdosta becoming one of the most popular places to enjoy cup of Joe. In 2000, Starbucks opened its first location in Valdosta and has continued to grow throughout the years. Today, there are over 150 Starbucks locations across Georgia and Alabama.

Valdosta is a city in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is the seat of Valdosta County, and was founded by Andrew Jackson on the Savannah River in 1817. The area now comprising Valdosta had been part of the Cherokee Nation until 1794. Valdosta became a U.S. port town on the Savannah River in 1819, and was named for General James Wilkinson, who led Union forces during the Mexican–American War. The city was annexed by Atlanta in 1898, and experienced rapid growth due to its status as a commercial center and its location near two major railroads. The population reached 100,000 by 1910, but declined after World War II as automobile production increased and jobs moved out of town. However, recent efforts to revitalize Valdosta have resulted in modest progress since 2000; however, it remains an important cultural and economic center in southern Georgia

When Starbucks opened their first store in Seattle, Washington in 1992, they were quickly followed by other stores throughout North America. The Valdosta area was first settled by the Cherokee in the late 18th century. The town of Valdosta began to grow around a lighthouse, built in 1792, and named for General James Caldwell, who served as governor of Georgia from 1793-1801. After the American Revolution, Valdosta became part of the newly formed United States. In 1814, it was renamed for Commodore John Gilliard after his victory at Trafalgar Point during the War of 1812. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the mouth of the Flint River and its connection to navigation on the river. By 1830, Valdosta had a population of over 4,000 people. It became an important port for exports and commerce until it fell victim to economic instability following Reconstruction in America. In 1898, following World War I, Valdosta was destroyed by a fire that burned throughout most of the town. Today only a few buildings remain from what once was one of America's largest towns.
