The first coffee shop in Thomasville, Georgia was the Coffee House on Main Street. The Coffee House was opened in 1892 by Dr. John S. White and his wife Sarah. The Whites were the first store owners in Thomasville and their business was successful until they moved to a new location on Cherokee Avenue in 1901. In 1912, the White family sold their business to Ethel Matson who operated it for many years before selling it to Harry Haggarty in 1927. The Haggartys ran the shop until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1924, Reverend C.B. Goode opened the African Methodist Episcopal Church on Elm Street which served as a stop for customers coming from nearby Mechanicsburg and other townships east of town. Goode sponsored coffee day at his church every week and he sold coffee beans from his truck parked outside of the church during these days of sale。 In 1948, Mr. Richard Gillett purchased the Shop at 10th & University Streets from Mrs. Myrtle Kappelman and reopened it as a grocery store with cafe inside under similar name to what is now known as Joe's Cafe & Restaurant.} In 1990, Gillett's shuttered business becameJoe's Cafe} which continues operation today.}
Thomasville is a small town in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,993 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town was founded by James Dickey in 1837 and named for his father, Thomas Dickey. A post office was established here in 1838. In 1851, cotton mills were built in the town and it grew rapidly as a primary cotton-producing center of southeastern Georgia. The townsite changed hands several times until 1865 when General Nathan Bedford Forrest took it from the Johnston brothers during the Buford's Rebellion. Thomasville became part of Forrest's new state capital after his defeat at Franklin Field on November 3, 1865. In 1925, Thomasville began to experience economic stagnation due to its proximity toAtlanta and its lack of industry or services outside of agriculture and marketing (the only other major industry then present). However, over time development has occurred including numerous large homes subdivisions within city limits since then – making Thomasville one of the most suburbanized communities in Cobb County (although significantly less so than nearby Alpharetta). In recent years this trend has accelerated with Mayor Bob Buckman spearheading efforts to revitalize downtown into a more attractive mix of commercial/residential uses as well as create new jobs throughout the community through various pro-development projects such as an urban baseball stadium being constructed just east of downtown which will be home to both local high school teams Homewood Baptist University Braves baseball team and Cobb Community College Dream Team football team; an addition also made possible by federal stimulus money allocated specifically for this purpose under President Barack Obama's "stimulus" package passed into law on February 13th 2009 among other measures public works projects that have been initiated or are currently pending across many rural areas across America following similar legislation passed by Congress during President George W Bush’s first term).
