Burnside was commanding general of United States forces in Europe during World War II and he decided to move his battle headquarters to Thomasville in order to avoid being scattered among numerous other cities. The base consisted of a few tents and it served as Headquarters for United States Forces in Europe (USFERE). Some examples include: Operation Desert Storm in 1991, Operation Noble Eagle in 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006, andOperation Enduring Freedom in 2011. Each time there has been a need for new facilities or housing so that USFERE could function properly. In all cases, the town has supported these deployments with great enthusiasm and assistance. Today, Tom Ridge is Commandant of USFERE which means that this community’s support continues unabated even after long periods without any major operations taking place within its borders- something which is highly commendable given how passionately everyone hereabouts takes their military engagement seriously!

In 1801, General Andrew Jackson moved his army camp from Thomasville to Decatur in order to better defend against attack from Mexico. The following year, Thomasville became the capital of Alabama after Mobile was taken by force from Mississippi. The city also saw some significant activity during Reconstruction; for example, it was served as the temporary seat of government for Georgia after Atlanta was destroyed by Union troops in 1865.
Thomasville was founded in 1801 by an American gentleman named Thomas. The town was named for him because he donated land to the Georgia state government. Today, Thomasville is a small community located in Fulton County, Georgia, just east of Atlanta. In 1801, Thomasville was only a small village situated on the Chattahoochee River adjacent to present-day Thomson Street and I-285. At that time, it consisted of about 100 residents and two stores. It was not until after the creation of the United States as a nation did Thomasville reach its current size. By 1830, it had grown nearly to its present size with around 1,000 residents. The first store in Thomasville opened its doors on July 15th of that year. The store's proprietor was John Hoggins and his wife Sarah Hoggins ran the business from their home on West Thomson Street until 1840 when they moved to their current location at 501 North Maynard Avenue. In 1841, John Hoggins' son Isaac opened another store in what is now known as First Ward on North Main Street which continued until 1861 when it closed due to financial difficulties. In 1865, Charles Dickens visitedThomson Street and noted that "the buildings are all new...They are large brick structures...There is no sign of any old age." This endorsement helped spur development within ThomsonStreet itself over the ensuing years; most notably in 1966 when James Baldwin purchased a home at 513 South Thompson St., later renamed Baldwin Place after him (now part of DeKalb County). It wasn't until 1978 that Thomasvillesspecialty grocery store chain Kroger came into being which has since become one of the largest grocery retailers in Cobb County. Today, Thompsonsreetown remains one of the most vibrant communities near Atlanta with active businesses including restaurants/cafes/bars/nightlife/entertainment venues and more!

Thomasville is a small town in southeastern Georgia, located on the borders of Cobb County and Fulton County. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1837 by George Thomas and his family from England. It became part of Georgia in 1868. Thomasville is named after General Andrew Johnson, who served as the 34th President of the United States from 1865 to 1867. The first settler in what is now Thomasville was George Thomas, who arrived here with his family from England in 1837. In 1840, he and his wife Jane set forth for America with their three children: John (age six), Hannah (age four), and Martha (aged two). They traveled overland through North Carolina and Tennessee before finally arriving at Milledgeville on November 4th of that year. Unfortunately for them, they did not have enough money to purchase land or build a cabin so they settled near what is now Stockbridge Creek on some land owned by John Waynesboro. In 1840-1841, there were only six residents living in what is now Thomasville: George Thomas, Jane Thomson (wife of Sam Thomson), Cassy Waynesboro (of Welsh descent), Samuel Thomson (brother of Cassy), James Waynesboro (sibling of Samuel Thomson), Sarah/Hannah Doddridge alias Hagooda Haddock (daughter-in-law of Captain John Pritchard) and one other female traveler - Sarah Morehead alias Hawkins Fenton who probably came overland from Alabama during this time period also but has yet to be found existent records documenting her presence here at this time.. By 1850 all but one resident had departed for better opportunities elsewhere within Georgia or else returned home to England.. A few months later another Englishman named Richard Warburton arrived followed by three Americans named Oakes Fordham Jr., Clark Morgan and Joshua Speed who erected a log cabin on October 16th, 1851 while still following the route taken by George Thomsons party earlier that year across stockbridge creek to findland where they ultimately built themselves a plantation called “Boyd’s Plantation” which would become known as “Thomasville” after General Andrew Johnson
The Thomasville area was first settled by the Cherokee in the early 1800s. The town was named after General James H. Thomas, who helped lead the Creek War of 1812. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century, and by 1900 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1907, Thomasville became an independent city and continued to grow until World War II when it declined significantly due to lack of resources and growth in neighboring cities. After the war,Thomasville experienced rapid growth again until its heyday in the 1960s and 1970s as a bedroom community for Atlanta. However, recent economic stagnation has caused much gentrification within the city limits and has led to increased crime rates.
