Thomasville is a small town located in Union County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,032 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Thomas Jefferson Davis and was established in 1824. The community of Thomasville was founded by Englishman James Hardin on a plantation near present-day Jacksonville, Florida. He named it for then-President Thomas Jefferson Davis because he admired him greatly as a leader and thinker. Hardin's plantation grew into one of the most successful cotton plantations in the area and became known for its fine produce, including apples and bananas. In 1824, American Revolutionary War veteran John Singleton Copley purchased land in what is now Thomasville from Hardin. That same year, Copley built the first store in what is now the town center – called the "Negro store." By 1830, many other stores had been built throughout the village of about 200 people. In 1832, Copley married Lucy Hance and began to move his family to what is nowThomasville from their original home near Jacksonville. They started a general store and restaurant that still stands today – called the "Hance's House." By 1840, there were over 100 businesses in what is now Thomasville with an gross sales of $5 million dollars annually! A new courthouse was constructed in 1849 which served as temporary headquarters during Reconstruction when Gullah society men operated it as a haven for black Americans fleeing white violence across state lines during that time period. The courthouse also housed various local government offices such as justice of peace courts until 1865 when they were moved to Jackson County Courthouse which remains standing today across from Pinemont Elementary School! In 1861 Confederate soldiers burned down much of downtownThomasville during their attack on Union forces under General Robert Ewell Harper; however most damage occurred to warehouses around First Street where several homes were destroyed along with some commercial buildings including Mr & Mrs Hance's grocery store (now part of Pinemont Elementary). This event marked one point in history where African Americans were forced out of white populated areas within Union County while living among their own people! Today marks National Historic Landmark day for this pivotal moment!

Thomasville is a small town in the U.S. state of Georgia, located on the Chattahoochee River. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area and is one of the oldest towns in that area. The first permanent settler in what is now Thomasville was James Caldwell, who arrived in 1784 with his family from North Carolina. He built a cabin on the banks of the Chattahoochee and named it "Caldwell's Mill". Other early settlers included John McIntyre (1786-1853), Elijah Hill (1801-1876), and Archibald Smith (1800-1865). In 1804, Methodist minister Ebenezer Cook moved to Thomasville from Milledgeville, Georgia to start a new church there. He had met Caldwell while preaching at Milledgeville Female Academy and decided to move to Thomasville because he felt it would be more accessible than Milledgeville for preaching to people outside of white society. In 1806, James Caldwell married Martha Cobbett, daughter of Governor Ebenezer Cobbett of Georgia; they settled in what became known as "Cobbetts Corner". The couple had five children: Anna Maria (1807-1881), James Alexander (1809-1910), Martha Elizabeth (btw 1811-c.), Julia Ann (btw 1813-f.). After her husband's death in 1840, Martha leased land from trustees for an academy which she continued operation until 1850 when she sold it to Aimee Postis French for $1,000 (). The post office called itself "Martha's Academy" until 1865 when it changed its name to "Thomasvillet School". In 1865, several families bought shares in Postis' school and operated it as a public school until their departure during World War II; after that time operations were coordinated by Mrs. Postis French until 1974 when they reverted back to the original name of Thomasvillet School again(). In 1907–08, due to heavy flooding caused by Hurricane Andrew (), many farmers abandoned their fields around Thomasvillle Creek and relocated their homes downstream into Chatanooga proper; this led directly to increased trade between these two areas because merchants could then sell goods direct from those communities rather than have them transported upriver first. This situation persisted until about 1920 when ownership changes within Chatanooga led eventually to increased traffic along both roads leading directly into downtown Chattanooga making transportation much more difficult than it used to be since trucks could not go downriver without being diverted onto main streets which bottlenecked traffic further upstream compared with how easily accessible downtown was before this change occurred.. In 1916–17 three men who had been working on building a dam across the Chattahoochee River came ashore north of where present day Thomasvillle sits and began clearing land for what would becomeUTHISDELVE Dam - now known as USFWS Headquarters Complex (). When work stopped after winter due lack of needed materials they returned home but left behind some tools including saws which became important for enabling construction workers access nd other river resources necessary for damming begins such as coal ()
