The Suwanee Coast Guard Station was founded in 1922. The station is located on the Suwanee River, and its primary purpose is to provide maritime security and protection of the river corridor. Suwanee is a small town in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in central Georgia. The population was 2,491 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Muscogee County municipality. The Suwanee community traces its origins to 1824, when General James Wilkinson and his brigade arrived from South Carolina on horseback after defeating a force loyal to Cherokee Chief Maskwee. The Wilkinsonians were met with hostility by many in the local community and eventually disbanded due to lack of support. However, three years later, Wilkinson's troops again invaded Muscogee County during the Mexican-American War, this time led by General Andrew Jackson. After routing a numerically superior Mexican force at Palo Alto Springs, Jackson ordered his troops to march into Suwanee for dinner; upon returning home he announced that "the whole place will be given up to me". Following Jackson's death in 1848, Congress passed an act authorizing another regiment (2nd Georgia Infantry) to be raised for service against Mexico; however, no such regiment was ever levied and mustered into service. In 1861, Confederate forces occupied Muscogee County while Union forces fought at Fort Sumter; following Confederate victory over Union forces at Monterrey two weeks later Suwanee residents rejoiced when word reached them that their county seat would not be taken by warring sides but would instead remain unharmed. That same year saw an influx of Germans fleeing communism in Germany through nearby Frankfurt am Main; many Susquehannock families also relocated here during this time based on their hope for better times ahead. As World War I began drawing near – with America entering it on April 6th – most people chose not to risk being drafted or engaging in combat despite living close enough for both events should they happen. After America declared war on Germany on December 11th 1915 Suwanee residents followed suit soon afterwards becoming one of only few communities east of the Mississippi River undeclared belligerents throughout WWI…. even going so far as erecting aWar Bond Committee chair within hours of Pearl Harbor being bombed! In 1933–1934 nearly all male members of the town’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) resigned after discovering that school board member Leroy Hargrave had been cheating on taxes with several female students….. resulting ultimately in Hargrave’s resignation from office himself less than one month later just prior to state investigators raiding PTA meetings looking for evidence of malfeasance! Although some members still refused to resign until assurances were made that there would be no further cheating any longer tolerated…….. most PTA members quietly exitedSuwanee during these unstable times……………………………………….. although some individuals have continued to contest state investigations into PTA activities today
The United States Coast Guard has been providing law enforcement, First Responders and maritime support to the American people since 1790. In 1927, the Coast Guard was renamed the United States Maritime Administration (USMA). The USMA was merged into the Department of Homeland Security on October 25, 2002. On that date, the Coast Guard's Identity Theft Protection program became a part of DHS' National Cybersecurity Center. The mission of the National Cybersecurity Center is to protect America's infrastructure from cyber-attacks and defend against any unauthorized access or use of U.S. information systems by foreign actors. On September 14th, 2004, President George W. Bush signed executive Order 13726 which created the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). NGA will provide critical intelligence support for homeland security and national defense interests across all federal agencies including those within DHS and CGEMA. NGA will also improve coordination between agencies in order to better share resources and expertise in areas such as space intelligence, counterterrorism operations and natural resources protection. As part of this partnership with NGA, coast guard gift history began in 1920 when then acting Commandant James Purdy ordered gifts for officers on shore leave at Governors Island Naval Air Station New York City while they were waiting for their next port of call ashore in Brooklyn. In 1940 Congress authorized appropriations for coastal security purposes which were used to purchase radios, radar equipment and other related items necessary for coastal defense patrols along America's coasts including Guantanamo Bay Naval Base Cuba; Miami Beach Naval Station Florida; Cape May County NJ; Long Beach CA; Newport News VA; Baltimore MD; Jacksonville FL; St Petersburg FL etc.. Gifts continued to be received through out these years but often specific needs would not be met until later funds were available again or new technology arose which necessitated a different type of gift - such as microwave ovens being sent directly to Guantanamo Bay! 2) In 1962 Congress passed an act authorizing gifts for service members training during Operation Neptune’s Spear within crisis zones overseas including Guam where Japanese forces had taken over after World War II ended 3) On December 4th 1965 President Lyndon Johnsonsigned Executive Order 12687 creating both FEMA (FEMA Development Authority) and DODGE(Defense Intelligence Agency Special Activities Division), each charged with carrying out various aspects of national intelligence programs affecting homeland security including counterintelligence activities worldwide 4) A few months later on February 22nd 1966 Senate bill S 5653 became Public Law 89-564 which authorized appropriations for grants program shall promote social welfare along with rescue dog/catylonization services provided by state & local governments etc.. This led to development over time towards today where states now contribute money up front towardsequipment costs therefore less chance fund will needto come back laterfunding neededfor gift recipients
