Sugar Hill, Georgia is a small town located in Clarke County, Georgia. The town was founded in 1837 by white farmers and their slaves. Sugar Hill became an important center for the cotton industry during the early 1800s. The first store built in Sugar Hill was called the White House Store. In 1892, sugar Refineries were built in the town and it began to become known as the "Cotton Capital of America." The town experienced more economic prosperity during World War II than any other time period. In 1945, Sugar Hill became home to two airfields used by the United States Air Force for training purposes. During this time, Sugar Hill also became a manufacturing center for military hardware and munitions. After the war ended, SugarHill experienced a decline in its economy until it regained some of its former prominenceduring the late 1990s through increased cultural and tourism attractions. These attractions have led to renewed growth within the community and continue to support its current level of prosperity.

By the late 1800s, coffee was so important to the economy of southeastern Georgia that it was often called the "second gold mine" after gold had been discovered in California. Coffee production continued to increase throughout the 20th century, and by 1971, more than two million pounds of coffee were being grown in southeastern Georgia. Today, Sugar Hill remains a major center for coffee culture in Georgia and is home to some of the most popular cafes in the state.
Sugar Hill is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,052 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Sugar Hill is located on the north side of metro Atlanta and east of the city limits. The original settler in what would become Sugar Hill was Howell Cobb, who arrived in 1824 from northeast Georgia with his family. He donated land to establish what became Sugar Hill Plantation on May 25, 1829 by deed from his grandson Howell Cobb to Samuel Hartsfield and others as a gift in memory of their father-in-law Colonel John Hicks (1789-1864). Samuel Hartsfield had been owner of The Atlanta Constitution newspaper since 1828 and its first editor, Alfred Stroud (1801-1885). In 1832 John Dillard purchased sugar beets from Howell Cobb for $1 per bushel. As sugar beet production increased throughout southeast Georgia during the antebellum period, Dillard founded Dillard's Store on December 7, 1840 at what would become known as Exchange Place near today's Highway 404 south of downtown Atlanta. What began as an ordinary grocery store soon became one of Atlantans' most important retail destinations – home to such early settlers as Reverend James McDowell (died 1830), Wm. Grimes (1812-1881), Alfred Smith (1823-1911) and others during the days whenAtlanta was little more than a trading post on the Chattahoochee River among other locales where farmers sold goods they produced or gathered materials needed for their dwellings and crops." Bertram Ramsay opened a bakery on Spring Street in 1889 which continued until 1912; it is now known as Bertram Ramsay's Bakery Inc., but still carries its old name across several martini glasses - "Sugar Hill". In order to understand the history of Tactical Coffee, it is necessary to first understand the coffee trade. The coffee trade began in Africa about 1810, and quickly spread throughout the world. Coffee was originally grown in areas such as Java and Sumatra, but soon became popular in many parts of Europe. The quality of coffee varied greatly from one region to another, and thus different regions would develop their own specific styles of coffee roasts. In 1795, a Swiss individual named Jean-Jacques Rousseau developed a new type of coffee that was darker and more bitter than any other at that time. This new roast became known as Rousseau's Roast. As the popularity of coffee increased around the world, so too did its price tag. In 1850, a Dutchman named Hendrik Bakelius created what is now considered the first tactical espresso machine. This machine could produce up to 4 cups of espresso per minute, which made it very popular among military officials and general officers. With growing awareness about warfare, more commercial entities started producing tactical coffee for use within armies and militias. By 1900, there were over 100 different companies manufacturing tactical espresso machines worldwide!
