The unit was called the 1st Bombardment Wing and its mission was to provide strategic bombardment of enemy targets in Southeast Asia. The wing arrived with a gift from Japan- an Aichi M1A1 Superfortress. This aircraft would become one of the most famous Aircraft of World War II and it is still used by the USAF today. The 1st BW also brought along a gift from Spain- an F3H Demon. This aircraft became very popular in Korea due to its ability to handle extremely high altitudes without crashing or losing altitude. It is still flown by some nations today as a trainer and reconnaissance plane. Colonel George Denny and his wife Mrs. Anna Denny of the 242nd Bombardment Wing at Macon AFB with the help of local merchant organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce and Sugar Hill Kiwanis Club. The donation was in memory of Lt. Col. Lewis "Buzz" Aldrin, who died in a plane crash on July 20, 1951 while serving as Commanding Officer of the 242nd Bombardment Wing at Macon AFB.
Sugar Hill is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Roswell and Marietta counties. Sugar Hill is east of I-75 and north of Atlanta. The first settlers in what is now Sugar Hill were white men from North Carolina who arrived in 1797. They named their land "Sugar" after the sugarcane that grew in those days near their plantation. In 1828, they sold their holdings to Captain John Cline and his family for $2,000 dollars ($ as of 2019). Captain Cline's son Major George Cline developed the land into a large plantation with more than eighty slaves working it. In 1865, Major George Cline died leaving four children: Samuel Witherspoon (the father), Alfred Watkins (the brother), James Hogg (the uncle) and Reuben Addison Watkins (the grandson). All but Reuben Addison Watkins inherited the plantation; he became known as "Sugar Hill". In 1898, when Atlanta was founded as a city, many families moved toAtlanta because of its burgeoning business opportunities. One such group was the Watkins family which included Reuben Addison Watkins Sr., his wife Fannie Mae Berryman Watkins and their six children: Alice Mayfair Watkins, John James Addison Watkins III, Edwin Augustus Evelyn Watkins IV, Lillie Rosemary Elizabeth Wright Beeson-Watkins (later Mrs. James Meredith), Josephine Louise Floyd Beeson-Watkins (later Mrs. Donald Ray Stubbs) and Anna Francesca Beeson-Watkins (/ˈbaɪsɛn/). On 15 February 1899 Geo Witherspoon wrote to his sister Fannie Mae Berryman about moving from Raleigh toAtlanta so she could join him there: "I am writing you today because we are going to leave for Atlanta tomorrow morning." They would be joining others who had also migrated over that winter including General William Troup plus many other family members who had made the decision to move during these difficult times following Andrew Johnson's disastrous presidency with high unemployment rates across much of America due largely to low natural gas prices caused by bad weather conditions throughout much of 2017–2018

Sugar Hill was a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, located on the crest of a hill overlooking the downtown area. The name comes from the fact thatuvania Creek flowed through the town. Sugar Hill was settled by white people in 1802 and remained a rural community until the late 19th century. In 1916, it became part of Atlanta. The first sugar plantation in what is now Fulton County was founded by Captain John Smith in 1793. By 1800, there were more than 10 plantations operating in what is now Fulton County. At its peak, sugar production accounted for up to 60% of all economic activity in Georgia. The city of Atlanta emerged as a major slave-holding center during this time and many enslaved Africans worked at sugar plantations near Sugar Hill. However, after Reconstruction ended following the American Civil War, most slaves were freed and many residents moved away from Lowndes County - which had been predominantly slave-holding - to escape such discrimination. In 1865, when Atlanta became an independent state, Sugar Hill was one of several towns within its boundaries that did not join the new state; instead they opted to stay with their former masters until they could be parceled out among various new states upon ratification of the Ulysses S Grant–era Constitution on December 15,. On January 1st 1868Congress passed an act annexing Lowndes County toAtlanta forming today's Gwinnett County
