Statesboro is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Statesboro was founded by John Leland and James Walker on November 3, 1786 as Williamsburg. The two men named it after the then-undefended town of Stonington, Connecticut, which they had just moved to from Yorktown Heights in New York City. When Williamsburg was still a small town, its first post office was opened in 1789. In 1802, Statesboro became the county seat of Fulton County after that county was created from parts of Dekalb and Cobb Counties. It remained so until 1827 when Athens became the new county seat because it had more residents than Fulton County. In 1834, Georgia General Assembly passed a bill designating Statesboro as the capital of new counties established within the state; this designation never came into effect because no new counties were created and statesboro reverted back to its original name after an effort by Governor Andrew Johnson to have it changed to Athens in order to distance himself from then-President Jackson’s administration while he served as secretary of war under Johnson (see also: campaign trail speech). In 1886–87, more than three decades after its founding date – during which time William Bradford Forbes designed and built what is nowGeorgia State Capitol complex – Statesboro experienced an influx of settlers due to cotton cultivation brought about by railroad activities along the Alabama River Valley northward from Chattanooga through states such as Georgia and Tennessee into central Alabama during this period known as Reconstruction (1868–1912). A large number of these newcomers found work opening up local plantations owned or managed by white farmers who had abandoned their land for newly developed areas outside of Mobile Bayou region where Chattahoochee River flowed into Gulf Of Mexico near Pensacola Beach Florida with access to Tampa Bay via Three Forks Road Bridge across Chickasawhatchee Creek - thus making modern day Chattahoochee Hills adjacent Jacksonville FL today only about 30 minutes away east on Interstate 495 highway following US 301 freeway exit ramps going south out of Tallahassee FL towards Gainesville GA then northeasterly on I-20 all within driving distance for most people living today near downtown Jacksonville FL including Orlando / Daytona Beach / Pinellas Park / Clearwater Beach etc now know simply as Jacksonville International Airport

In 1998, Statesboro welcomed the first African American mayor in Georgia when Vernon Jackson won election as Mayor of Statesboro. Jackson served until his death in 2003. Today, Statesboro is an important cultural center for the region and offers a variety of attractions for residents and visitors alike. The community has numerous museums including the MacArthur Museum of Art and History, which features works from both Georgian and African American cultures; State College Park which includes a baseball stadium and other athletic facilities; . There are also shopping districts located near downtown Atlanta that offer a variety of products from local businesses along with national brands such as Macy’s, Sears etc.; restaurants including several high-end chains such as Denny’s or Dunkin’ Donuts; natural gas stations; movie theaters; golf courses; tennis courts; kayaks/canoes/dockside bars/restaurants etc., all within walking distance of one another making it easy to get around without feeling too city-bound or too spread out.
