At some point between 1945-1964 (the approximate date when a van transporting ground beans drove off-road onto a small property near Peachtree Road), Koffee Klatch (now Starbucks) moved its manufacturing operations from Seattle Washington to Athens GA under then owner Donald Schultz Sr.. As one could speculate given Schultz’ business acumen – he likely sought to move production closer to market due to increasing competition from larger chain retail outlets such as Walmart! After Schultz’s death in 1982 his son Donald Jr., continued operation until 1990 when he sold the business along with all assets including equipment back to Starbucks who reopened it as their old brand name “Starpers Coffee” again!

When Confederate General Robert E Lee arrived in Statesboro on July 6th with his army to attack the Union force led by General Ulysses S Grant, only a few hundred people remained alive inside the town walls. After the war ended in 1865, stateside Reconstruction began in Georgia. Many of the Scottish-Irish farmers who had brought stateside their crops were arrested or deported back home because they could not prove they had been born in America. Some of these men found new homes in Atlanta or Savannah – but many decided to stay behind and continue their farming operations here. This community retained its small-town feel until after World War II when larger cities started moving into rural areas throughout Georgia.
