This was the first Starbucks location in America and it is still open today! TheStarbucks store was an important part of the community and helped to grow downtown Statesboro significantly. Statesboro is located in Fulton County, Georgia, and is the county seat of the City of Statesboro. The population was 54,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Statesboro was founded in 1795 by General William Troup as a station on the Savannah River for traders and travelers between Augusta, Georgia (the capital) and Charleston, South Carolina. The first permanent settler was David Wilson in 1801. In 1837, Colonel James A. Moore established a military post called Fort Hill at Statesboro to protect British interests in south central Georgia during the War of 1812. In 1859, Statesborough became an incorporated town when it absorbed neighboring towns of Acworth and Mableton. The name was changed from Statesborough to Statesboro in 1886 to commemorate General Nathan Bedford Forrest's victory over General Robert Ewell at Appomattox Court House near Petersburg, Virginia on April 9 that year. The cotton industry dominated community life until after World War II when other industries began to grow such as education, healthcare, technology and professional services. In 2000 statehood ceremonies were held for both Cities of Statesboro and Townsville before being combined into one city under one governance structure two years later with identical boundaries with Acworth annexed from Mableton while Townsville remained an independent municipality

Statesboro was founded in 1824 on the Chattahoochee River, about 12 miles from Atlanta. It was named for General John C. Smith, who had commanded a brigade in the Georgia Revolution of 1811. The town grew rapidly because of its location and timber resources. By 1830, Statesboro had a population of 3,500 people and it became an important commercial center. In 1838, the Georgia Legislature gave Statesboro city status and it became one of the most significant cities in Georgia. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Statesboro was occupied by Confederate forces until Union troops arrived to take it back later that year. After the war ended, Statesborough continued to grow as a result of its new industrial capabilities and its proximity to Atlanta. In 1920, it amalgamated with other nearby towns to form Eastern Atlanta Township (EAT). Today, Statesboro is home to many interesting historical artifacts such as the original courthouse building from 1824 and State House Park which containsa replica of Alexander Hamilton's old Treasury Building. There are also several small businesses located in downtown which continue to serve citizens of statesboro today
